It's All Gone

It was the strangest thing winning all that dough

I met more  friends than I'll ever know

Each with their own sad tale of woe

Didn't take long.    It's all gone.

I was the grand marshall of the Fools Parade

Booze and dope and I was getting laid

No idea I was being played

Didn't take long.    It's all gone.

Felt like Elvis Presley buying Cadillacs

Money draws honey and that's a fact

Everything flying off the racks

Didn't take long.    It's all gone.

All my kids showed up and with their moms to boot

Sight to behold watching greed take root

Each one got a share of the loot

Didn't take long.   It's all gone.

Helped a Nigerian Prince out of a jam

He'll pay me back as soon as he can

He warned me about online scams

Didn't take long.   It's all gone.

You know   I was broke all my life    but I was happy too       (BR)

So I hatched a good lie    to try to see a way through

I had no idea it'd work so well

It just goes to show    you never can tell

Folks were stunned as the news of my downfall spread

The shock    the pain    and the awful dread

All because of that lie I said

Didn't take long.   It's all gone.

Now there's hardly a soul    looks me over twice

Just Barney my mutt'n  he's pretty nice

If you win big    take my advice        Say

Didn't take long.    It's all gone.

The Real World

Verse

Open your eyes

This world is yours and mine

I'm peering out the window, all I can see is everybody

Dying

Pick up your pen

You might not again

I understand the way you work, but all I hear is people asking

When

Chorus

My neighbor doesn't pay his taxes

He acts like he runs the world

It might be too much to ask him

What happened to his dreams as a girl

Verse

Why should I stay home?

There's people that I know

Who know exactly what they want but can't work up the courage to say

No

Walk me to the door

What once was mine is yours

No need to thank me, like everyone I've met you just want

More

Chorus

My sister's digging up her garden

Looking for something to prove

My mother goes outside to ask her

What school does she want to go to?

Verse

Who are you to say

What's good has gone away?

I wish more people had the courage to believe that god is

Fake

Why should I go on?

What's really in this song?

A bunch of words that see each other once or twice and then they're

Gone

Numbers Stations

V1

There are places on the short-wave radio dial

Where there's not a lot of reason to go

With seemingly random numbers spoken

By passionless voices in monotones

Russian, English, German, Czech

Irregular days and times

Telltale evidence of tradecraft

Secret codes and spies

Half CHORUS:

Numbers stations

Sending messages...  secret messages

V2

I write them down in a notebook

Searching for patterns and trends

But one-time pads make my mission improbable

Doomed to fail in the end

Still I keep on plugging away

Pursuing this Sisyphean task

Listening, writing, night after night

Till it's solved at last

CHORUS:

Numbers stations                                          `

Sending messages...  secret messages

Numbers stations                                          `

Sending messages...  Making me crazy

BRIDGE:

I'm so close to working it out

And when I do

I'll know when and where and what

And how and who

V3

Secret plans...  secret no more

I'll know their tricks and their plots

Mangle their communications

You see I'm crazy... like a fox

If knowledge is power

I'll have power to burn

(And) pull their strings like (they're) marionettes

They'll never learn

CHORUS

Perfect Moments

(Male vocal for lyrics in black, female vocal for pink, and male/female vocal for blue)

(Verse)

Punching, screaming

Duck and diving

Reeling, writhing

She sticks the knife in

I got my war wounds

Though I've never fought in a war

Life hits like a Cat-o-nine

Knocking me to the floor

When every topic is a landmine

Every day a battlefield

It takes so much effort just to stay sane

And not raise up a shield

And in these moments we need to take joy where we can

Live in the present and find a place of calm

(Pre chorus)
Sunshine glinting across the bay
Slowly fades as the day gives way
Dragonflies over bales of hay
Uncut grasses in the verges sway

(Chorus)
Perfect moments

Summer blossom

Perfect moments
Troubles forgotten

(Verse)

Grappling, screeching

Block and parrying

Feeling, crying

He sticks the knife in

I got my war wounds

though I've never fought in a war

Life hits like a Cat-o-nine

Knocking me to the floor

When every topic is a landmine

Every day a battlefield

It takes so much effort just to stay sane

And not raise up a shield

Yes, in these moments we need to take joy where we can

Live in the present and find a place of calm

(Pre chorus)
Sunshine glinting across the bay
Slowly fades as the day gives way
Dragonflies over bales of hay
Uncut grasses in the verges sway

(Chorus)
Perfect moments

Summer blossom

Perfect moments
Troubles forgotten

(Verse)

Punching, screaming

Grappling, screeching

Duck and diving

Block and parrying

Reeling, writhing

Feeling, crying

She sticks the knife in

He sticks the knife in

In these moments we need to take joy where we can

Live in the present and find a place of calm

(Pre chorus)
Sunshine glinting across the bay
Slowly fades as the day gives way
Dragonflies over bales of hay
Uncut grasses in the verges sway

(Chorus)
Perfect moments

Summer blossom

Perfect moments
Troubles forgotten

Let The Heavens Rain

My window panes are dark on this summer afternoon

Cats and dogs are gathering into rivulets and pools

I am tempted to lay down, feel my skin against the ground

And face the rains, like all my flower do

Sometimes the heavens open up

And rain all over me

Nothing like a summer squall

To set the heavens free

And that lets the heavens set me free

Yeah the heavens' rains set me free

So let the heavens rain on me

Let the heavens rain on me

I guess I'm just addicted to the essence of growth

Like water and sunlight and dark rich loam

I celebrate each morning with the flowers in my garden,

And face the rains with all the seeds I've sown

 Sometimes the heavens open up

And rain all over me

Nothing like a summer squall

To set the heavens free

And that lets the heavens set me free

Yeah the heavens' rains set me free

So let the heavens rain on me

Let the heavens rain on me

I don't tell my garden, but I love the sunflowers best

They lord it over lavender, they're taller than the rest

And they're first to catch the scattered drops of rain

Sometimes the heavens open up

And rain all over me

Nothing like a summer squall

To set the heavens free

And that lets the heavens set me free

Yeah the heavens' rains set me free

So let the heavens rain on me

Let the heavens rain on me

Watercooler Jake

Intro
He exudes a confidence
Draping round his shoulders like a silver net
Sparking off on all of the attention that he gets
Entangled with every lover he has ever met.

V1
He gets off on himself like no one else
Top of the shelf with a big shiny bell
He'll start taking off clothes if you start to stare
Sensing for sex on the rise in the air
A lingering kiss on the neck
While easing you down on the chair
Softly asks if you’d like to touch him..there.

PreChorus

You'll be a story and he won't be sorry

That's how Watercooler Jake gets his girls

Look just like you love them and promise they're your world

Then watch that jerk go running into work.

Chorus
Fooled by 'magical', manufactured moments
Truly it’s a mistake you will live to lament.
If you’re looking for someone to love you from here to the blue sky
It will never be this guy he's just after flesh to fry
Take it from one who knows the shame of Jake's watercooler fame.

Everything goes silent as you walk passed
Feel as insignificant as a blade of grass
The sshhhhhh you hear is not the water pouring into cups
It's your name quietened on superior lips at sup
Not a cool nor a hot topic
I'm the laughed at, gullible one
Confused into what l went and done

Bridge
Just like love is your addiction, sex and telling tales are some of his
Since you can’t serve 2 masters the faster you get out of this
The less the burn will hiss

Chorus

Pc

Chorus

Say You Wanna Be With Me

V1

Tell me, tell me

Can you change this old weather?

Lift a curse, break a smile

Make it better?

A golden needle to unstitch the past

And the future realign

Do you have the kind of time it takes

The time to break from all the pantomime?

Or will you too sit and spin and help them all deny?

(spoken) That you can really make it all better

V2

You wanna be my father

You wanna be my mother

Or just a k-k-k-kiss

You wanna be my lover

Tellin' every little thing to me

Because you think that it defines

Reality inside our hearts

What lies behind our minds

(spoken) There's something you can do that's better

Ch

Closer now, don't hesitate

Just say you wanna be with me

We can turn our backs on this foolishness

And let them be in their "uh oh"

I can see it in your eyes you only think of me

V3

I saw you come into town with your letters

I saw you framin' the frowns to untether

Brave me, baby, let me take your hand

Let me punctuate the dotted l-l-l-l-lines

So you can read between my thoughts and see

That you really make that world a big

Waste. Of. Time

Just let them all sit and spin and help themselves deny

(spoken) That you really make it all better

V4

You think about the former

Concerned about the weather

And you're worried I'll drown in the overflowing river

But don't you know you've given back my time

And you've helped me realize

The secret's within this skin

Behind those shimmering eyes

(spoken) With you, us two, always together

Ch

Br

I see the others, they pretend

Acting like they understand

But if they open to the truth

They'll open their arms to you

Ch

Outtro Ch

Closer now, don't hesitate

Just say you wanna be with me

We can turn our backs on this silliness

And let them be in their "uh oh"

Closer now, don't hesitate

Just say you wanna be with me

I can see it in your eyes you only think of me

High Gates

The high gates and lamplit spires

Shone like stars

On the wasteland around where wild tribes

Sang songs by their fires

Picking up spears and shields

With their deeds, dangerous seeds in the fields

One word on their tongues - revenge

Revelry from hallowed halls

Echoed off walls

Feasting and laughter unaware of the clatter

Of short sword and dagger

Hiding shadowy forms

In the dark men yearn for the sound of the horn

The signal to wreak - revenge

With three blasts the men rose

Hate in their eyes

Total surprise

They burst into the feast inside

And with no pause for thoughts

They cut through the court

Till every last reveller had died

And as the blood dried on the dead

and the women weeping gently

They looked around at the plenty

They realized they were not driven by revenge

But by envy

The high gates and lamplit spires

Shone like stars

On the wasteland around where wild tribes

Sang songs by their fires

Picking up spears and shields

With their deeds, dangerous seeds in the fields

One word on their tongues - revenge

Delilah

I’m not some penny-ante vigilante

Don’t get your knickers in a twist

But if you pull a trick, my vengeance will be quick

I’ll forget we ever kissed

(Chorus)

Delilah, go ahead

Get out your sharpest knife

Delilah, go ahead

It’s not like you’re taking my life

Delilah, go ahead

My love for you is strong

Delilah, go ahead, I mean

What could turn out wrong?

You have seductive powers I succumb to

That’s just the dream we’re living in

But when you make the cut, ignore the scuttlebutt

It doesn’t mean I’m giving in

(Chorus)

Delilah, go ahead

Get out your sharpest knife

Delilah, go ahead

It’s not like you’re taking my life

Delilah, go ahead

My love for you is strong

Delilah, go ahead, I mean

What could turn out wrong?

(Bridge)

It's true I find you bewitching

And I see that your fingers are twitching

Maybe I’m blind to your true ambition

But the world falls away whenever we’re kissing

(Chorus)

Delilah, go ahead

Get out your sharpest knife

Delilah, go ahead

It’s not like you’re taking my life

Delilah, go ahead

My love for you is strong

Delilah, go ahead, I mean

What could turn out wrong?

The Crows of Wheelock Park

Ch:
The crows of Wheelock Park
Have black green-tinted wings
They're tribal and audacious
And fly around in rings
Their nasal caws remind me
Of your sour impudent mother
Just when we're getting close
We'll hear some raucous things

V1:
I took a walk with Winnie
We ambled through the red pines
The summer sun was hot
I noticed all the signs
In 1965
When LBJ was pres'dent
There was a horseshoe tourn'ment
I thought about those times

V2:
Back then the men drank Schlitz
The women they wore yellow
The horseshoes clinged and clanged
all around the metal poles
Back then your mum was fourteen
The same age as our daughter
Her years then, they were formative
And something dimmed her soul

V3
Your gramps was renassaince
Your gram they say was surly
Your mum she got the talent
But she got a mean streak too
Around 24 hours
Her tongue gets sharp and firey
Her patience it wears thin
I've learned to take her cues

V4:
We walked by a sand diamond
The men were playin' softball
Just like a LeRoy Neiman
The braggadaccio
Your mum she'd be inspired
She's got a knack for painting
the human form in action
Too bad she's such a ho

V5:
Oh what to have a picnic
With stawberries and melon
Our mother and her grandkids
A'telling their best jokes
Instead we've got a gremlin
She talks but never listens
She thinks she's got you figured
When she should be eatin' crow

Ch:
The crows of Wheelock Park
Have black green-tinted wings
They're tribal and audacious
And fly around in rings
Their nasal caw reminds me
Of your sour impudent mother
Just when we're getting closer
Get ready for the zings

Those Eyes

A1

She has curves

In all the right places

And a smile

So warm it embraces

But her eeeyes

Outshine all her graces

When they roll roll roll roll roll

I … lose my mind

A2

When she moves

She glides like a dancer

And her heat

I could only try to answer

But those eeeyes

As I romance her

When they roll roll roll roll roll

I … lose my mind

B1

With the rhythm just right and the fever burning high

Her chest would start to flutter she’d let out a little sigh

And her eyes would start to roll twinkle and blink

The brass ring was coming we were in perfect sync

Oh those eeeyes ….. when they roll roll roll

A3

Yeah she’s coy

Masking her danger

So demure

But I know how to change her

Oh those eeeyes

Are just a game changer

When they roll roll roll roll roll

I … lose my mind

B2

With the rhythm just right and the fever burning high

Her chest would start to flutter she’d let out a little sigh

And her eyes would start to roll if you know what I mean

It’s the hottest damn thing that I’ve ever seen

Oh those eeeyes ….. when they roll roll roll

Oh those eeeyes ….. when they roll roll roll

Oh those eeeyes ….. when they roll roll roll

Party On Your Birthday

Verse 1:
It's time to celebrate
the day you were born
come make some noise
blow on a horn

Close your eyes
while you make a wish
the ritual's the same
whether your 18 or 40-ish

Blow out the candles
tear your gifts open
may the next year bring
everything that you're hopin'

Forget all the bad stuff
in which you did partake
and just take a big bite
of your birthday cake

Chorus:
Party on your birthday
let's have some fun
strap yourself in
for a trip around the sun

Another year older
a little more wise
memories flow through your mind
as they crystalize

Verse 2:
Into the world
on this day you were thrust
a new life emerging
from the cosmic dust

Hear the clocks tick away
feel the Earth as it spins
reflect on days past
as your new year begins

Try as we might
we can't stop aging
it's a losing battle
this time war we are waging

As you leave your footprints
in the sands of time
reach for the sky
and let your spirit climb

Chorus:
Party on your birthday
let's have some fun
strap yourself in
for a trip around the sun

Another year older
a little more wise
memories flow through your mind
as they crystalize

Outro:
Time to let loose
get this party hopping
dance the night away
to the hits that I'm dropping

It's a party
come on and party
it's your birthday
happy birthday

it's your birthday
have a party
happy birthday

it's your birthday
have a party
happy birthday

have a happy
happy birthday
it's your birthday
so have a party

Autobiography

V1

I wish I had some money...

I wish that I could find

A fast train with enough track to forget that you're not mine.

I've never been to Branson...

Or even San Antone.

And I'd like to see Lake Michigan before I'm dead and gone.

Chorus

I never meant no trouble, I never meant no harm.

I never told you how I loved just lying in your arms.

I can't slow these days down, no matter how I try.

I'd say that I'll forget you, but we both know that's a lie.

V2

My father worked his whole life...

I've worked my whole life too.

And Granddad was an Army Major back in World War Two.

Sometimes I still hear you...

Still see you in boots.

I still wear your memory like a faded three-piece suit.

Chorus

I never meant no trouble, I never meant no harm.

I never told you how I loved just lying in your arms.

I can't slow these days down, no matter how I try.

I'd say that I'll forget you, but we both know that's a lie.

V3

I have read The Bible...

I've read "Bloody River Blues."

And I have walked the woods at night without wearing my shoes.

I wish I had some money...

I wish that I could find.

A fast train with enough track to forget that you're not mine.

Chorus

I never meant no trouble, I never meant no harm.

I never told you how I loved just lying in your arms.

I can't slow these days down, no matter how I try.

I'd say that I'll forget you, but we both know that's a lie.

City Girl

V1

I'm a country man and I've been one all my life

Part of bein' country means favorin' a certain style

PC1

I got my flannel shirts and my faded jeans

I'm not afraid of dirt and I know farm machines

And it's all for real, not a high-falutin' thing in sight

Ch 1

I live on my land with my yellow dogs, it's the perfect place for me

I got a tractor and a rig with a come-along

Split my own wood from my own oak trees

I love cookin' up moonshine with my off-the-grid cousin Earl

So what was I thinkin' when I married me a city girl?

V2

Who knew there were so many things I didn't know
She's got me drinkin' lattes and not my normal cuppa Joe

PC2
She buys me button-down shirts that come in a box

And the kind of shoes you're s'posed to wear with arygle sox

If I don't watch it, I'll be ditchin' my beer for her French Merlot

Ch 2

We still live on my land with our yellow dogs, she's happy here with me

She's learned to drive the tractor and we're not at odds

Till we talk about gettin' a new SUV

She's pushin' for a Beemer and I just might give that a whirl

That's what I get for marryin' me a city girl

V3

I love this woman who signed on to be my wife

But I didn't have a clue how much she'd throw a wrench into my life

Bridge:

I knew it'd be somethin' watchin' her adjust

To livin' out here with a country cuss

But sometimes it seems like it's the other way around

Every day it's gettin' harder for this country boy to stand his ground

That's what I get for marryin' me a city girl

Yeah, that's what I get for marryin' me a city girl

Out of Control

Verse 1
Lately when I'm here with you,
you've not been here with me
And when I've tried to talk to you,
you've not tried to talk to me
It's getting like a one way street,
the direction you take your feet
The joy I once saw on your face,
isn't there now when we greet

Chorus 1
You're out of control, Nicole
You're out of control
You're out of control Nicole, Nicole
You're out of control, of control

Verse 2
Lately when I've squeezed your hand,
you've not squeezed back at me
And when I look you in the eyes,
you've not looked back at me
Is there something I should know,
'bout the way your feelings grow?
When I call you on the 'phone,
I long for more than plain hello

Chorus 2
We're out of control, Nicole
We're out of control
Wer'e out of control Nicole, Nicole
We're out of control, of control

Break
I'm wondering who you've seen me with
and what you may have learned
I'm wondering what you've found on me
that could get you so badly burned
Your conscience is clear, but mine is not
That's why I hide concern
I want the best of both worlds
I want it but, I can't tell you

Chorus 3
I'm out of control, Nicole
I'm out of control
I'm out of control Nicole, Nicole
I know it but I can't tell you
...Nicole

Uber Love

This girl I know asks for me all the time
(She sold her car and now she doesn't drive)
I pull up to her place and she gets in
And off we go again
Off we go again..

Uber love
Uber love
I pick her up
I drop her off
The time we spend together
Is never quite enough
Uber love
My Uber love

I'm in the driver's seat, she's in the back
Sometimes along the way we'll have a chat
I always take her where she wants to go
I guess she'll never know
How I love her so

Uber love
Uber love
I pick her up
I drop her off
The time we spend together
Is never quite enough
Uber love
My Uber love

I took her to a party Friday night
I could hear the noisy party-ers inside
And I worried: "Would she make it home OK?"
Then I drove away
Yes, I drove away..

Uber love
Uber love
I pick her up
I drop her off
The time we spend together
Is never quite enough
Uber love
My Uber love

{br}
And when she needs a ride
I hope it's on my shift
To make sure some other guy
Hasn't given her a lift
Oh no!
SHE DOESN'T WANT A LYFT !!

Uber love
Uber love
I pick her up
I drop her off
The time we spend together
Is never quite enough
Uber love
My Uber love

No, the time we spend together
Hardly runs my meter up...
Uber love
My Uber love

Krakatoa

The natives were awoken by a loud KaBOOOOM!!

Soon they were shrouded in a veil of doom
Thick smoke filled the sky, black as sin

The seas grew angry and the dreadin’ set in

Come a rumbling world, fire n’ lava poured down

Twas time and tides and a helluva sound

It was far away where the island girls play

Where the coconuts fall and they fish all day

Came a deafening blast and a muddy rain

And a mighty gale blew like a hurricane

Nightmarish hell fire began fallin’

And they called it

Krakatoa!

Don't you knowa?

Krakatoa!

Don't you knowa?

Krakatoa!

Don’t you knowa?

It was a long long time agoa

A beach umbrella on Java did clang

There was panic in the streets of Ketimbang

A little old lady cried, “help, I can't see!”

Able bodied man cried, “help, I can't breathe!”

The situation was quite ---appalling

And they called it

Krakatoa!

Don’t you knowa?

Krakatoa!

Don’t you knowa?

Krakatoa!

Don’t you knowa?

The blast that ROCKED

The whole WOOOORLD

With the last epic explosion

The volcano crumbled to the sea

A swell swept ‘cross the ocean

Racing towards ----- destiny

The giant wall of water was a hundred foot tall

When the wave crashed in like a wrecking ball

The lucky ones made it to higher ground

The unlucky ones just floated around

It was a monster tide, the grand salami

Twas fish swallowed by the big tsunami

Listen here Mister, take heed my friend

You stand on an egg shell, paper thin

Your dear Mother Earth she’s a hot blooded child

When she blows her top she gonna go hog wild

When California tumbles

Or ol Vesuvius explodes

When the Yellowstone cauldron

Finally unloads

When the past and the future

Are one in the same

Remember the name

Krakatoa!

Don't you knowa?

Krakatoa!

Don't you knowa?

Krakatoa!

Don't you knowa?                                          (It rocked the world)

Don't you no, no, No, No,                              (It rocked the world)

No! No! NO! NO!                                           (It rocked the world)

NO!! NO!! NO!! NO!!! NO!!! NO!!!! . . .           (It rocked the world)

Comatose

Intro:
Male - He's not going to wake up.
Female - But he has to!
Male - He's given up. There's nothing we can do.

Verse:
I'm lying here peacefully
But please don't look at me
I've surrendered finally
But why was it
So easy?

Pre-chorus:
Your eyes are full of tears
As you listen to your fears
Knowing I will not wake u-u-u-u-u-up
And as you stare at me now
Time stands still all around
You watch as my heart
Slows dow-ow-ow-own

Chorus:
Just take me off this life support
You should know my time is short
(So why cause me
Misery?)
Just tell the doctor not to fret
It is time to forget
(But it won't be
So easy!)

Pre-chorus:
Your eyes are full of tears
As you listen to your fears
Knowing I will not wake u-u-u-u-u-up
And as you stare at me now
Time stands still all around
You watch as my heart
Slows dow-ow-ow-own

Chorus:
Just take me off this life support
You should know my time is short
(So why cause me
Misery?)
Just tell the doctor not to fret
It is time to forget
(But it won't be
So easy!)

Massive Attack of the blues

1

I'm going to have a row with my woman. I know who will lose

I was out last evening enjoying a pub crawl booze

But I spent all night in a cell

With the strangest woman from hell

I think I'm going to have a massive attack of the blues

2

I said to this woman in a bar do you you fancy a drink

she said ok hon and. gave me a sideways wink

When we kissed I found out her ruse,

Her dress was hiding bad news

I think I'm going to have a massive attack of the blues

Ch

A massive attack no getting back

And it's breaking my heart in two

It’s all down to me I got no excuse

With a massive attack of the blues

3

A fight broke out cos her type doesn't ring my bell

The cops were called and we were locked in a cell

There's not much more I could lose,

I woke up in some strange women's shoes

I think I'm gonna have a  massive attack of the blues

Ch

A massive attack no getting back

And it's breaking my heart in two

It’s all down to me I got no excuse

With a massive attack of the blues

4

Here I am at my girlfriends knowing that I’m about to lose.

All my words sound like lies and I'm stinking of perfume and booze

She threw out a sack of my things,

Along with her two diamond rings

I think I'm going to have a massive attack of the

blues

Ch

A massive attack no getting back

And it's breaking my heart in two

It’s all down to me I got no excuse

With a massive attack of the blues

SERENITY

We made a vow to sober up at last

Finally got us in a halfway house,

Our love the only flame we didn’t douse

To stop burning up our lives so fast.

Working hard to be like normal folk

Simple cures for complicated pains

And desire all wired into our brains

For the fires that dope and liquor stoke

Everybody was supposed to share

Sorry stories of what we’d become

Seemed that talk began to dwindle some.

Lots of words left hanging in the air.

White lines, blue sky

As the planes go by

I knew one day

She’d slip away

Looking for a way to fly

Courage, wisdom, serenity

The prayer said to change the things we can

She said it helped her figure out a plan

Never sure if that included me

Friday night she caught a ride to town

Down that highway like a scalded dog.

Vapor trails and streaks of morning fog

Somehow say she won’t be back around.

So maybe it was never really love

Just a therapeutic interlude,

A remedy that always did include

Giving up the things we’re fondest of.

 White lines, blue sky

As the planes go by

I knew one day

She’d slip away

Looking for a way to fly

In a house dry as dead pine straw

But I’m something like a lightard knot

Let this fire burn everything I’ve got

Til the whiskey lets a cold heart thaw

National Bankers' Dance

V1:

They're eating all the babies  as they pull them from the sacks

Picking out the tiny ones to break their little backs

They're laughing hard and snorting..... with nothing left to chance

Welcome to their night of fun  ... the National Bankers Dance

V2:

And all their loans and mortgages are forged of hardened steel

Pressed on crying supplicants....insuring fates are sealed

Dressed in links of silver ...the help serves wine and snacks

Scurrying around the room.... while bankers all relax

Chorus:

Fiduciary caveats pepper conversations

Courts are sure to give the banks... severe interpretations

Fountains burn with vodka , Money in the air

Such a night of gaiety for every banker there

Dancing in their golden dreams while borrowers despair

V3:

Rags and bones with hollowed eyes are waiting with their wives

Signing on to interest rates they know they can't survive

The dancers all avert their eyes ..the band picks up the beat

As bankers roar with raging greed and scramble from their seats

Chorus:

Fiduciary caveats pepper conversations

Courts are sure to give the banks... severe interpretations

Fountains burn with vodka , Money in the air

Such a night of gaiety for every banker there

Dancing in their golden dreams while borrowers despair

V4:

The armed guards prowl the dance floor ... they march around in pairs

Protecting bankers while they scheme to take what isn't theirs

There's no way left to stop them...so don't you even try

You never poke the crazies... unless you want to die

You mean no one volunteered to score 21 sets of lyrics just for fun!!!

Lot's of good reads this month.  My top score was Ty Cobb's Those Eyes...looks very promising as a song.  Other top scores were It's All Gone, The Real World, Autobiography, Serenity, and National Banker's Dance.  Good work everyone.  I look forward to hearing any/all of these turned into songs.

Thanks to all that were willing to see my work not just as a poem (as it was very poem-like), but a possible set of lyrics.

Congrats to Discatticus for the runaway win!  You left everyone in the dust this month.  Congrats also to Ty. I particularly liked your opening lines.  Ty and Discatticus were both in  my top two.  I suspect National Bankers Dance might also have reached the podium this month, if only.

I purposely threw a dog in 'It's All Gone', thinking it might coax a better score out of Barney, but it was all for naught. Thanks to everyone for the votes.

Interesting variety of lyric subjects, as usual. Thanks to Iggy for hosting.

Congrats to discatticu, kuya and Ty! :)

All got top marks from me (aren't I smart? :))

A brave man to take on a Tom Jones' title, LyriCal's Delilah was my favourite this month.

Fun stuff here for this first timer. Congrats to all, especially Discatticus. Your work was rock solid. Great structure, strong images, clear message, etc., and easily imaginable as something to be sung. Love to hear the melody if you put it to music.

Thanks also to Iggy for the heavy lifting.

Well done to Discatticu, Kuya, and Ty. And thanks again to Iggy for co-ordinating.

I thought the standard was extremely high this month. I had 2 lyrics tied for first, with ratings of 1.5. One was the winning lyric, Autobiography, and the other was National Bankers' Dance. Both stunning lyrics. (I work in banking, so probably should have given the latter a rating of 5 … but it won me over. :) )

After those, there was loads of other good lyrics and I had It's all Gone and High Gates tied for 3rd.

Congratulations to discatticus, kuya, and Ty Cobb. Good work all.

My favorites were It's All Gone, Those Eyes, City Girl, and Out of Control. That's after National Bankers' Dance, but of course iggy had to disqualify that one...

Thank you, Paul, for mentioning Delilah as your top pick. Go ahead and turn it into a song, if you'd like! :)

And a huge round of applause for iggy not only for his talent as a lyricist but for his hard work running the contest.

Cheers,

Doug

Autobiography is one of the better lyrics I've seen here in the few months I've been around. Kuya and Ty Cobb, congrats and well done. Also The Crows of Wheelock Park, Watercooler Jake, National Bankers Dance, High Gates all worked for me. Thanks for running things, iggy.

Well done Iggy!! - should have know "National Bankers Dance" was yours - one of the outstanding lyrics this month, scoring a rare-from-me "1.5" along with "Autobiography".

...shame we can't see where you would have finished - can you PM me your placement? - I'm guessing it would have been a top contender...

For anyone interested in my effort "Out of Control" - I've posted the song collaboration on the Song feedback forum.

Good job, everyone. There was some really creative material here.

I've never entered a lyric contest before, but thought I should get my feet wet. I don't really write lyrics, but I had one set I wrote to a reggae-hop song years ago, and so put that up.

All in all, I don't think I'm good at this lyric contest thing. Writing or judging. If it were a poetry contest, okay, I can do that. If it were a music+lyrics contest, okay, let's roll. But a lyric contest sans music, I don't think I'm good at that. You guys are operating on a different level. Kudos. And keep it up!

Congrats to discatticus on the well deserved win & Kuya for the strong showing.  Thanks for the the kind words for 'Those Eyes', I wasn't really holding out much hope for it to score high as I feared the subject matter might turn some folks off.  Very happy with the bronze in this field.  If anyone has some thoughts to add on it I'm posting it in the Lyrics feedback forum.

As well as the top two I thought Perfect Moments & Out of Control had some strong elements.

Thanks Iggy for doing the legwork.
