Jan-Feb 2018 Instrumental Competition Discussion Thread

Recommended Posts

Welcome to the discussion thread of the fifth ever Muse Instrumental Competition!

This topic is for any questions or discussions concerning the Jan-Feb 2018 Instrumental Competition.

Here is the formal competition area (to be used for submissions).

The idea is to have a competition that is open to, and offers enough of a challenge for people at any level of musicianship and any means of recording. All entries will be scored on their own, taking into account the perceived intent of its creator, without comparison to the other entries.

The main rule is:

  • No intelligible words. Otherwise any genre, length, recording format, and assistance from others is permissible (you can even ask for help from fellow contestants).

Feel free to post discussions on the January comp in this thread, including your intent to enter, questions about the contest (or even how to record), your trials and tribulations during the process, and come back for the post comp discussion.

The comp has begun; get your entries in by February 28th!

Extended the contest until the end of February to allow more people to enter.

Is it acceptable if we use any backing track that available in the web and add any lead instruments  (improvise) over it?

Hmm.. good question, but I don't think that would work. You would be entering music that is not yours, and it would also break this parameter outlined on the contest thread:

  • Entries must be methodically crafted, as opposed to simply improvising on your instrument with the record button on. If you want to use improvisation(s) in layered tracks crafted together, that’s acceptable.
