Fires

Recommended Posts

Southern California is on fire again.  Wildfire in Ventura County burned over 150 structures and is still burning with zero containment. We have our own fire going here in LA County where voluntary and mandatory evacuation orders are in effect.  Got a house in the area (Creek fire) under the voluntary order - just went through this same thing a couple of months ago.  This is getting old.  I'm thinking of moving to Alaska.

Hey, good luck.   Just so you know - outside the Alaska cities, when a forest fire starts, they just let it burn itself out, which it usually does when it hits waterways that block it - too much land and not enough people to try to fight it.  We saw miles of blackened trees in places along the highway from Anchorage to Denali.

Maybe it's time to move on. I like California a lot and even lived in and around Cerritos (LA county) for a year but the traffic, pollution and densely populated region that all spread like butter over the land were a real turn off for me.  I always thought to really enjoy this great state with tons of environmental beauty, one had to have big big bucks otherwise it wasn't worth it.  I would imagine you have family rooted there.  You mentioned something about your son you traveled to see in one exchange I had with you.

Sorry to hear about your experience and the conditions you and others there must be going through at this time.

That makes a lot of sense.  Also you probably only have one fire season - summertime.  Our fire season here is everyday.

Yeah, I'm out there every day cussing out all the dumb drivers on the road.  It gets stressful but dealing with this nonsense all the time has become a habit.  It would drive me crazy if I didn't have to put up with all the traffic and nonsense.  What I can't deal with is the politics - every State office is run by not just a democrat but by leftists in that party.  I keep thinking it has to go back to the good old conservative days when Ronald Reagan was governor but it seems we're not even stopping at socialism but going directly to communism.  Just got a 12 cent per gallon increase in the gas tax and almost a doubling of car registration fees (presumably to keep up with the global warming initiatives).  Well, enough for venting.  The winds died down today (but just as I speak I hear the swirling of the wind in the air) so the heroic fire fighters had a chance to fight some of these fires.  They lifted the evacuation notice it looks like I'm going to be ok.  Some nearby houses did burn overnight.  My sons and wife went to Oregon over this past weekend to visit my daughter and  look at houses.  I took care of my older son's farm animals some 80 miles from my home.  Always enjoy hanging with the donkey, horse, tortoise, sheep, turkeys and chickens.  I'm going to ride that horse one day when I get the nerve. I'm feeding him a lot of carrots and apples to let him know I'm his best friend. Anyway, thanks for your kind thoughts.
