Waiting For The Hating

V1

Turn on the TV, another life gone

Reporter cries, the anchorman yawns

Everyday, seems like more of the same

World is going not-so-quietly insane

PC

Shots ring out once again

Violence is never gonna end

CH

Now I’m waiting for the hating

I know I’m not mistaken

Leader tells us we must stop it now

Opposition argues he doesn’t know how

I’m waiting for the hating … to be over

V2

Another day, more horrifying news

Unstable guy with nothing to lose

History of jealousy and fear

Never hears what he wants to hear

PC

Shots ring out once again

Violence is never gonna end

CH

Now I’m waiting for the hating

I know I’m not mistaken

Leader tells us we must stop it now

Opposition argues he doesn’t know how

I’m waiting for the hating … to be over

BR

There once was a place

Of peace and harmony

People loved one another

Even if they disagreed

How can we return

What do we need?

CH

Now I’m waiting for the hating

I know I’m not mistaken

Leader tells us we must stop it now

Opposition argues he doesn’t know how

I’m waiting for the hating … to be over

Just wanted to say I really struggle writing lyrics - and this 'challenge' made it way easier. Earlier today I Was sitting with a notepad with a song/melody and meaning in mind, and got nothing. With this challenge maybe I didn't come up with something I can use immediately for a song, but I came up with words that at least tell a story in an interesting way, and definitely enough to write further. I will definitely be trying this again. (I don't mean to offend anyone with the words.)

Waiting For Roses

An American dream on international soil

Freedom distilled for a land in turmoil

A dictator of greed thrown out of power

All by the strength of the conquerors flowers

Liberty seeds were gifted and sown

The Nations rejoiced at the hope they'd _

But as the headlines spoke of a nation at peace

The citizens wept at the blood in their streets

Now we're waiting for roses

Now we're waiting for peace

Waiting for freedom, from the flowers we've sown

Now we're waiting for roses

Now we're waiting for hope

Hoping our labour will take its tole

Hi Harreh, good start (think it needs another verse and maybe a bridge.

Is there a reason you left out 'known' for line 2 of verse 2?

I find challenges a good tool, as well - we always suggest a prompt/challenge at our monthly songwriter meetings.

Yes you're quite right about what its missing. I spent a while toying around with it and forget to complete that rhyme.

Waiting for the Rain

Parched earth,

gone dry.

More sand,

in my eye.

holding out hope for a few

drops from the sky

I’m waiting for the rain

this well’s about run dry

I’m waiting for the rain

to come and keep this land alive.

Hot sun

beats down

sweat falls

to the ground

and I keep praying for that water

to be found

I’m waiting for the rain

this well’s about run dry

and I’m waiting for the rain

to come and keep this land alive.

Clouds building in the distance

gathering for a fight

drought holds strong it’s resistance.

Will the war end tonight?

I’m waiting for the rain

this well’s about run dry

and I’m waiting for the rain

to come and keep this land alive.
