    Just My Opinion

© 2018 John Heavern 24 S-10/4/18, Just My Opinion Obstinate minds can be hard to persuade, a willful perspective unwilling to grow. Fixed in foundations their confidence laid throttles the route persuasion can go. Not just my opinion they don't want to know. Br1) I'm not the sharpest tool in the shed, but based upon the life I have led, experience tells me I've got more to share, unfortunately, it don't go anywhere. Ch) Traveled the world, married a girl, accounts of occurrences mounting. People implore me, then choose to ignore me in decisions considerably counting. Take it, leave it, don't grieve to retrieve it, it's just my opinion, if you wish to believe it. Explored lotsa' places and seen many things, valuable lessons oblige me to say what foolish mistakes and consequence bring when life's little obstacles get in the way: just my opinion I need to repay. Ch) Traveled the world, married a girl, accounts of occurrences mounting. People implore me, then choose to ignore me in decisions considerably counting. Take it, leave it, don't grieve to retrieve it, it's just my opinion, if you wish to believe it. Br2) Opinions that matter are subject to change, the terms and conditions can get rearranged. Envisioning politics, love and romance: it’s just my opinion to not take a stance. deeptrope@icloud.com
  2. A song I wrote recently, it deals with the dreamlike nature of subjective experience, the obsessive compulsion to be one with the universe, and a general longing to die anywhere other than planet Earth. It is intended to be written from the perspective of whatever aspect of conciousness exists separate from your thoughts, feelings, and physical body. The Narrator of your concious experience, and it's attempt to explain to you some harsh truths about the objective reality that orbits your clouded and egocentric mind. What If When We Die, We Scatter Well, the first thing you need to know about the future, Is that it's not going to be a place, Or a place you'll want to stay, But it's not like you have the choice, We leave as time leaves, Does that sound familiar? Like today, and every day? When you wake up in the morning, You are, you are not you, The you that you remember died between dreams, Your memories are false, You've just become a body that looks like who you were when you fell asleep, But sleeping in the road is not going to get your hands to build something, Or wake you up when you're not a problem anymore, Man, it's far out, I can't believe we got so far out again, Far out on the wind that carries us, Were just too far out, far out of our heads, I don't know if we're coming back this time, And it fucks you numb, The way you've been for the past few years, You're proud and dumb, And beginning to forget, You're just a cage of meat, Meant to house a whirlpool. But could you do that? Ignore the promise of a sunny day? Just to save yourself the trouble of staying up all night? So can we do that? What if we never take? And we only use what we find? You're found. What happened to the old sky? The one that men much older that your father cracked a hole in, Just to prove they could. To show us, when our time really comes, We'll have somewhere else to go, That we we won't have to die on Earth, And we don't have to die alone, But they failed when they came back, When they crashed back through the air, Knowing full well that they had lives to return to here, They didn't prove a fucking thing, Or follow Major Tom, And die between the worlds, I need to know that I don't spend, Every day of my fucking life, Waiting to become one of those bodies in a dirty box, Why do we put them in their nicest clothes? It's kind of cruel if you think it out, Dressing them up like that when they're going nowhere, Absolutely nowhere. Every time I go, I feel the need to appear again, Younger brothers and sisters, God I wish you didn't have to know, That no where else is anymore fair, You're fantasies are the fantasy of fantasies, And your brain is mostly air.

    Drink To Forget

Hi All Here is a song lyric I am working on the past three months. I've got the song recorded instrumentally, just waiting to complete the lyrics. The song has a fast paced Foo Fighters (band) feel to it. Im maybe 95% done with this and have probably gone through at least 20 rewrites and basically the rewrites were designated on 3 lines which I'll point out. Again, its a work in progress, but am curious of opinions or reactions you may have about this lyric. Drink To Forget (J.Upham) (c) 2018 V1 Happy hour and I'm in a bad way Got the news that you're leaving me today Letting go is my only salvation This line took about 4 rewrites to get it where I wanted it. Any means to lessen the pain This line was at least 10 rewrites. This line is sung to an extended chord before it crashes into the chorus. Chorus: So I drink to Drink to Drink to forget Drink to Drink to Drink to forget I drink to forget all the things that you once meant to me V2 Yesterday I lived for tomorrow She was all that I needed in my world Victimized I fight through depression 6 rewrites/had this line written Victimized I deal with depression but it was harder to sing, there is something about the word "with" that is awkward to sing and I try to avoid that word at all costs Every time someone mentions her name This line is still pending. Even with the extended chord to fit the phrase it still phonetically trips me up abit. I like the content or meaning of the line, but the word "someone" singing wise at that faster tempo can disrupt the cadence. Repeat chorus solo repeat V1 Repeat chorus end
  4. Greetings, my name is John Heavern, from Charlotte, N.C. . I currently have 5 music demos, three of which are videos on youtube. Music for demos created by paid musicians, lyrics & videos created by myself. Youtube link available here. Demos are country, my influences: Roger Waters, Neil Peart, Freddie Mercury, Tommy Shaw. I have over 170 complete lyrical poems of various subject matter and disposition I best describe as: "Lyrical poetry of observational introspection", designed to accompany 4/4 musical composition and be “song-friendly”, complete with verses, repeating chorus and bridges. A lot of it’s pretty deep stuff, some humor and love as well. It is my goal to find that musical ying to my lyrical yang, make the living my/our gift deserves and quit my day job! I have spent thousands of hours and dollars on this obsession, time for it to pay off. A superficial interest plan. Ch1) It’s stubborn, it’s cruel, the folly of fools, a game of the mind with irrational rules. At times it is bursting, bruised or decides the best or the worst things with whom it resides. Fit to be tied: decisions of pride. A self-indulgent inner child of disproportionality is prone to go a little wild when prompted by reality. A proud perceptability. Br) It’s good in small doses when aptly applied, just be on your toes with that slippery pride. No rest for the weary, leave nothing to hide, presumptuous theories flaunt pillars of pride. Ch2) A stumble, a fall, the bait for a brawl, an awkward attempt to make sense of it all. Impassioned behavior is showing a side that sinner and savior uniquely divide. Split kinda’ wide on matters of pride. Relationships are seldom free, a bumpy ride that can exhaust purveyors of myopic dreams who stand alone at any cost. An egocentric line is crossed. Ch3) A weapon, a brace, a glow on a face, emotional puzzle not easy to place. Confidence grows in a singular tide as emptiness flows into feelings denied. Loneliness cried in puddles of pride. deeptrope@icloud.com

Chorus: I'm gonna cruise like a Tomahawk, over the sea, with a monkey on my six, followin' me. Oh no! Woo hoo! And that monkey gonna see what I'm a gonna do! Verse 1: Don't 'cha love Mondays, like your hand in a blender? or shoehorned subways ... with their odor of life? But I got a new alarm clock. I'm gonna set it on stun. It's gonna wake me up gently, like a gatling gun! Pre-Chorus: Take your everyday vitamins ... and your go-fast pills. Now focus like a zoom lense, if you've got the will! Verse 2: Wading through email, and emoji death threats, I don't need kevlar. I need a coffee to go. Living under a black cloud, like canaries in a coal mine, I'm gonna lose that monkey, then I'll be fine. Cheers, Pete

    Demolition Baby

I mentioned in another post that I was working on a lyric called Demolition baby and that it had been inspired by walking past a local inn that had just been demolished. Quite sad as it was an old building and had been a much loved establishment in years gone by. Anyone, it triggered an idea for a song lyric which I've then worked up a bit. In terms of the music to accompany it, I was thinking something in a Dogs D'Amour style. Appreciate that will mean little to most people here. They were a rock band from London in the late 80s/90s. Their singer, Tyla, was/is an alcoholic and not the world's greatest singer but I think he is a very underappreciated songwriter. (And also a great artist). Anyway, I could see a riff similar to their song 'Dog's hair' to accompany my lyric. Demolition baby (Intro) Good lord, they knocked down the old Inn last night Just bricks and broken dreams left at first light And as I watched the destruction You know, I thought of you baby. (Verse 1) We fell into dirty sheets with our jagged hearts In a bedsit in Tooting in nineteen something (Verse 2) You said you hated filthy cheats who slight of hand their cards And I listened as you glistened on a steamy summer's night (Bridge) I know that we were broken But the words that we spoke of Were soft and soothing to my heart, But it seems you were intent On seeing hate where love was meant And that guaranteed we'd be blown apart (Chorus) You're the demolition baby You rigged everything to fall The demolition baby Now there's nothing left at all (Verse 3) We lost our flirty ways almost from the start In a war zone of our making in nineteen something (Verse 4) You said you hated crystal dreams that shatter into shards But you sabotaged any plans that we had for love (Chorus) You're the demolition baby You rigged everything to fall The demolition baby Now there's nothing left at all (Chorus) You're the demolition baby You rigged everything to fall The demolition baby Now there's nothing left at all (Chorus) You're the demolition baby You rigged everything to fall The demolition baby Now there's nothing left at all Dynamite, TNT No point talkin', bout What might have been You're the demolition baby You're the demolition baby (Chorus) Yeah, you're the demolition baby You rigged everything to fall The demolition baby Now there's nothing left at all Boom!
  14. Turlough O'Carolan (1670-1738) knew how to combine traditional Irish music with Italian Baroque that was the preferred choice of the high society at that time. The repetition of short motifs as well as the particular way of building tension reveal O'Carolan's knowledge of the leading styles in the Baroque era. His experiments with harp music influenced a whole new genre, as it were: the Celtic Classics. O’Carolan, who was the son of an iron founder, lost his sight to smallpox at the age of 18, and spent most of his life as a travelling harpist. However, he gained fame due to his gift of composing harp music and writing songs, mostly in Irish, with the exception of one English tune. The Celtic Baroque roots of 'Stairway to Heaven'

    Abandoned

Pretty rough guitar instrumental. I'm not really sure where I want to go with this, or how to get there. Obviously needs a bass line; the only bassist I've been able to get together with couldn't seem to do much more with it than hit root notes, so I'm probably going to end up finding a cheap bass somewhere and doing my own (something that's a distinct line of its own, ala John Paul Jones or James Dewar). I'm also thinking of a keyboard part, kind of an ambience-type thing, like Pink Floyd (intro to Shine On You Crazy Diamond), with a pedal A in the little bridge thing. The big question to me is, does this song lend itself to a vocal melody? I'm not sure; it seems to me to be structured more around a feel hopefully conveyed by the opening and closing voice fx, and I don't know that vocals wouldn't be more of an intrusion than anything else. But, of course, I'm open to ideas. The lead lines are also something I'm working on polishing up a bit. Anyway, all feedback appreciated. Faron Abandoned, on SoundCloud ETA- just listened to the link, and I didn't realize how muddy that version sounds. I'd have preferred to link to my BandMix version, but couldn't get that link to work properly. I should also mention that I've been having issues with hearing loss for the last few years (seems to run in my family, and I am 61, after all), so what I hear and what everyone else does may be two completely different things.

    Life goes south

A lyric about mistakes you made in your past eventually catching up on you. Not entirely happy with verse 3 - think it probably needs to be improved. Life goes south (Verse 1) Bobby was a corporate rocker Made his first couple million Had some more in the locker, Sitting in his living room Thinking 'bout buying a copter, When Lesley-Ann burst in Brandishing a gun and sayin' "Hope you got a good doctor!" (Chorus) Life goes south so fast Mistakes you made in your past Now snap back at you Like a rubber band (Verse 2) Tilly was a hard working mother Much loved by all her children Especially her only daughter, Standing by the telephone Thinking of all the things she'd taught her, As the child's biological Laughs from the other end And screams that he's got her. (Chorus) Life goes south so fast Mistakes you made in your past Now snap back at you Like a rubber band (Bridge) Life looks picture book perfect If you don't look under the surface To the naked eye Things are fine, fine, fine Cos you can't see all the short circuits (Verse 3) Mildred was a straight A student Destined for the top, hand-picked By city firm Proctor and Nugent, Lying in a drunk stupor Looking like a crazy mutant, As the biggest case of her life Played to a packed house, media scrum Looked like she was playing truant (Chorus) Life goes south so fast Life goes south so fast Mistakes you made in your past Now snap back at you Like a rubber band!

    Kicking up mud

I'm still catching up on posting lyrics that I wrote during the song collaboration contest. You'll notice more mentions of boots! I didn't send this one to Triffid, as we'd already chosen our song to work on, but I had fun writing it. I feel it could be a fun light-hearted rock or heavy rock song? Kicking up mud (Verse 1) Late one ev'ning I was walking back from town Felt like my head was on upside down Corner of my eye and I see this sight Girl strut strutting under pale moonlight (Chorus) She do the alligator stomp down by the swamp Kicking up mud Kicking up mud She got knee high boots that zip down the side Kicking up mud Kicking up mud (Post chorus) She's a wild girl See it in her eyes Late nights Cat fights Gets her prize (Verse 2) Guess that ev'ning I was feelin' kinda down Had just proved sorrows will not drown Don't know why I did it but I guess it felt right Kicked up my boots and shouted ‘well, alright!’ (Chorus) I did the alligator stomp down by the swamp Kicking up mud Kicking up mud I got big Doc Martens with half a mile of lace Kicking up mud Kicking up mud (Post chorus) She's a wild girl See it in her eyes Late nights Cat fights Gets her prize (Chorus) We do the alligator stomp down by the swamp Kicking up mud Kicking up mud She got knee high boots that zip down the side Kicking up mud Kicking up mud I got big Doc Martens with half a mile of lace Kicking up mud Kicking up mud The rain came but we didn’t care Flailing limbs up in the air The rain washed mud from her hair Found myself caught hard in her stare Kicking up mud Kicking up mud Kicking. The Willow Tree

Hey everyone! Here's a song I wrote a while ago called "The Willow Tree." Although all forms of feedback are appreciated, I am more focused on the musical side of things than the lyrical side. Thanks in advance! We were alone together, lying underneath the willow tree You told me you'd be leaving soon, but there were things you wanted to see So you took me to the cavern where we used to play as kids Writing on the walls, just sloppy scrawls, it was where we first hid You said "Never forget my name 'cause I'll be back" The streets are empty and deserted, now there's nothing to do or see Stuck on the wrong side of the moon, but it don't matter much to me When you were here, the town was booming, now it's all lonely and drab I have my calendar, I'm marking the days until you'll be back Heart to heart in the jungle We've come to meet our fate Eye to eye, side to side The hour's getting late I've been waiting decades now just to see the sun rise again I thought I might never make it out and then, here you came We were young, spending our days living insane Now we look back at everything we've done in vain And your soul keeps singing the blues But it's all over, there's nothing to lose Anymore

Then vote at the election Collaboration with Mick Beers . . . The Politician ©2018 Beers/Foster lyric by Mick Beers music by Jack Foster III The man is always so well dressed With all his suits perfectly pressed A smile so big it leaves stretch marks And big white teeth stolen from sharks And he has a moral compass That’s pointing towards dubious He’s the creme de la creme A man among men He’s a politician With a silver tongue He can do no wrong He’s a politician Oh yes he’s a politician He lives inside the back pocket Of whoever fills his wallet He is a man of the people Who dance around what is legal But he’ll never do any time For committing white collar crime He’s the creme de la creme A man among men He’s a politician With a silver tongue He can do no wrong He’s a politician Oh yes he’s a politician He believes in wealth for all with no wars like vietnam Just long as money’s flowing And long it’s crossing his palm But the man can never be blamed Playing the political game Cause what he does actually Is just what comes naturally And we don’t really have much choice He represents the people’s voice He’s the creme de la creme A man among men He’s a politician With a silver tongue He can do no wrong He’s a politician Oh yes he’s a politician If you don’t like his direction Next time vote at the election
  22. Here is my latest song. I finally decided to write a tune about our soldiers around the world. All crits and comments welcome. UPDATED MIX: 2/17/2018 Flames of battle are never far away Like some savage bird of prey Thoughts about my folks Vanish in the smoke The sound of taps echos in my brain I'll keep on fighting anyway The never ending war may rage I don't really have a say Don't want two coins to grace my eyes I'll stand my ground, push back the tide I'm coming home Silent memories fill the void In the endless noise of war I try to see your face But the picture fades to grey Hang on tight, ignore the pain I have to make it one more day Blood-stained hands fan the flames While my feet turn to clay Can't spare the time to find the line It's time to leave this all behind I'm coming home I'm coming home The never ending war may rage I don't really have a say Don't want two coins to grace my eyes I'll stand my ground, push back the tide Blood-stained hands fan the flames While my feet turn to clay Can't spare the time to find the line It's time to leave this all behind I'm coming home

    Just not over you

Starts out with a piano and the singer for first 3 lines, then bring in full band, till the bridge when we drop back down to just piano and singer.. then everything back in till end. Thinking a Major sounding Pop punk power chords meets Summer of 69 Brian Adams kinda feel. Probably add an acoustic to give that vibe. Kinda what I am going after - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=elTPMgkvWU4 - maybe around 150 BPM <verse 1> That summer was, the best of my life I wonder what my world would be like If you never moved away. Every sexy curve of you, is burned in my mind Every day with you, a memory of mine I'm longing for those warm summer days <chorus> If I could put my heartbeat in reverse Id go back in time an live another verse I'd trade all all my tomorrows Just to have one more day Cause I'm just not over you just not over you Cause I'm just not over you <Verse 2> Your parents dragged you away Said I was leading you astray We were never given a half a chance Remember down at the amusement park We rode the cyclone in the dark It spun your heart into mine Up on the Ferris wheel I rocked the car and made you squeal We were living on borrowed time <chorus> If I could put my heartbeat in reverse Id go back in time an live another verse I'd trade all all my tomorrows Just to have one more day Cause I'm just not over you just not over you Cause I'm just not over you <bridge> All the things I didn't get say before you went away You forgot that bear I won for you <chorus> If I could put my heartbeat in reverse Id go back in time an live another verse I'd trade all my tomorrows Just to have one more day Cause I'm just not over you just not over you Cause I'm just not over you
