    "Lost Upon The Deep"

My first ever video attempt using Cyberlink Power Director... A fairly simple attempt using mostly still pictures and text but hope I've managed to capture the atmosphere of my song here - which is a tribute to the many sailors lost on the granite cliff rocks of Lundy Island in the Bristol channel - over 200 wrecks. The island's only tavern (Marisco Tavern) has lifebelt lined walls from the wrecks - quite a sobering thought while having a pint at the bar. Any thoughts, comments or suggestions welcome. I find the video side to song writing quite addictive - one day may even try a fully moving picture movie! Lost Upon The Deep Cheers, Andy

    the mocking ghost

[[ This one began with something in this world -- Diplacusis dysharmonica, Diplacusis echoica -- and turned into a spirit walking at night in my peripheral hearing and mocking me, and this became a song to be sung with chants and drums and a chorus of mocking spirits singing in insect voices. ]] [the predicament of the soul] A spirit coiled in the curl of my ear talks to me like a lurker in the other room. I cannot tell above the wind that whistles by: is this the me who's talking? Whose tongue is this? My mind or spirit coiled within my inner ear? Whose tongue is curled in my left ear? Come out now! [one explanation of the soul's predicament] They say the mocking ghost will walk your words back home. They say the mocking ghost will turn your tale around. They say the mocking ghost will live in your left ear. [chant of the mocking ghost in insect voices] They say the mocking ghost They say the mocking ghost They say the mocking ghost [wonderment from within] My mind or flight of birds? My mind or branches aching? My mind or not my mind? [another explanation of the soul's predicament] They say the mocking ghost will show another you. They say the mocking ghost will bend the light round you. They say the mocking ghost will live in your left ear. [chant of the mocking ghost in insect voices] They say the mocking ghost They say the mocking ghost They say the mocking ghost

    Orion & the Seven Sisters

[[ Folk, country, singer-songwriter, something like that. I was thinking of Aimee Mann's latest. I thought about adding another verse, but maybe that enough? It's a bit of a longing song. You should come away from a longing song feeling as if something is missing. ]] Verse 1. She has lived all the seven sins on the seven seas but shipwrecked herself in the far ambiguities. Stranded herself between the one and the other, she's married a stranger, run off with his brother, then walked out on him in the middle of a ham and cheese. Verse 2. She has places to be, and men tend to hold a girl down. So she stands in the door after dark in her slippers and gown. She already knows she'll be gone before Christmas. She just needs a night when there won't be a witness. Except for the stars that are rising up over the town. Chorus When the cold days come and Orion is hung in the sky. When the birds have flown and no one is home in the night. She will go with the hunter a sword on his belt. They will chase the seven sisters until time runs out. They will chase across the sky until time runs out. Instrumental, chorus again, and fade

  5. Hi everyone, I’m a new singer songwriter and am ready to begin sharing my music and hearing feedback! I’d love for you to take a listen and let me know your thoughts. I wrote this song about a beautiful lake in northern California where I take an annual summer camping trip. It’s the first full song i completed and I feel it still needs some work to be stronger Cinematic lake premiers a mirrored sky. for the show I’m pouring wine and I’ve got you by my side. Pull you closer in, skin, cedar smoke. On a canvas of calm air sun paints in amber’s tone. Daylight to starbright i’ve got you sweet lapping water, stones growing smoother where the days are far from time. Breathe in listen, you’ll hear it oars dip in water row back and forward. Pendulum in rhyme. Well this is sure to bring you in my arms. Embers glowing bright, burn august night. Sillouhette of a smile, thatll fill you heart with light. Jeffrey pine stand tall, circle round us all fortress wood and green vanilla sap serene night time, your eyes grow softer crackling cedar flames changing color eyes grow soft in time shadows dancing, in rythym move to the laughter strings of the guitar drifting off so far well this is sure to bring you in my arms

    Seeking Music for Documentary

Hello, I am an independent filmmaker in Wisconsin. I created a documentary titled "99 Bottles Documentary" about the renaissance of microbreweries in Wisconsin. I am seeking music to finish the documentary. On the website for the project and the Facebook page I provided links to songs that I like. I am looking for songs that have an older feeling to them. Songs that have a sing a long at a bar feeling. Irish folk music is one example. Singers with a guitar is probably better than a full band of instruments. I recommend looking at the samples I have on my pages and please offer your suggestions. I am not a musician to be able to give you the best description. Does anyone have any songs that could work to be included in the documentary? Cheers, Jason http://www.99bottlesdocumentary.com/music/ https://www.facebook.com/99bottlesdocumentary/
  7. I'd been reading Robert Hughes' mammoth book 'The Fatal Shore', a non-fiction account of the colonisation of Australia by convicts. The women's lot, of course, was a harsh one. As a woman - and having lived in Australia for several years - I felt compelled to write the lyric. It came quickly with the melody.BACKGROUND:In January 1798, the 301-ton whaling ship Britannia II, captained by Robert Turnbull, set off from England with a cargo of 96 female convicts, bound for the penal colony in New South Wales, Australia. Two women died during the passage. The ship anchored in Sydney Cove on July 18. Washed and dressed in remnants of the clothing they'd worn when the ship set sail 6 months before, the women were immediately auctioned off on the upper deck. They'd been sentenced to 7-14 years servitude, mainly for theft (i.e. items like a handkerchief, a shawl, a bolt of cloth, a brooch, and so on). After military officers and subordinates had had first pick of the women, certain 'well-behaved' convicts were allowed to 'apply' for any of the ones remaining.Al Hughson: Music/instrumentation/vocalsDonna Devine: Lyric & melody Come Hurry Lads To Sydney CoveRefrainCome hurry lads to Sydney CoveThe whaler is soon to arriveWith its cargo of 96 womenGod willin' they're all aliveFor pickin's are small in the colonyAnd we've been too long deprivedV1The Britannia weighs 300 ton[And] she's pounded the stormy seas'Tween England and AustraliaMaybe bringin' a wife for meV2And after the officers take their pickThere might be a fair one behindOh even if she be ill of faceBy evenin' she'll be mineRefrainCome hurry lads to Sydney CoveThe whaler is anchorin' soonWe'll go scramblin' over the bulwarksWe've been sharpenin' our harpoonsFor pickin's are small in the colonyAnd a woman would be a boonV3I've me bottle of rum for the cap'nFor to set a good one asideSomeone at least better lookin'Than the men I break rocks besideRefrainCome hurry lads to Sydney CoveThe whaler is soon to arriveWith its cargo of 96 womenGod willin' they're all aliveFor pickin's are small in the colonyAnd we've been too long deprivedLiftSome will weep, a few will begOthers will scratch and curseThey'll make a fuss, but they're here for usIn England their lives would be worseRefrainCome hurry lads to Sydney CoveThe whaler is soon to arriveWith its cargo of 96 womenGod willin' they're all aliveFor pickin's are small in the colonyAnd we've been too long deprivedFor pickin's are small in the colonyAnd we've been too long deprived 2012 Donna Devine

    They Sold Their Souls

Lately I have become fascinated with musicians who supposedly sold their souls for musical talent. I know there are others but I couldn't find anything to rhyme with Niccolò Paganini. Please leave feedback/suggestins Thanks They Sold Their Souls Ever since our ancestors clapped their hands People have been in bands Makin' music for the world to hear 'Cus music is food for the ear But there were those who stood out from the rest They were those who were the best But things aren’t always as they seem Though their instruments played like a dream They made a deal which doomed them all And once they answer death’s beckoning call Eternal pain they must endure For the music they made, so rich and pure. (Chorus) They sold their souls They sold their souls Now they’re in the Devils fiery fishbowl They sold their souls One a dark day And unfortunately now They can’t be saved. Robert Johnson was one of the first He played the guitar the very worst Got booed out of clubs and laughed out of town Then to the crossroads he went down His guitar slung on his back He met a man all dressed in black Suddenly they said “This Kid Can Play” And he played good till his last day Died at the age of 27 And you must know he didn’t go to heaven. (Chorus) He sold his soul He sold his soul Now he’s in the Devils fiery fishbowl He sold their soul One a dark day And unfortunately now He can’t be saved. Years later there was rock and roll Johnson got that ball rolling with his soul There were four lads across the sea A British Invasion it would be Jimmy page, a virtuoso John Paul Jones a man of the show Robert Plant could sure sing well And John Bonham played like a bat out of hell. With the devil they became friends And once Bonham met his grizzly end With Satan he now plays With Hell’s band in a fiery blaze. (Chorus) They sold their souls They sold their souls Now they’re in the Devils fiery fishbowl They sold their souls One a dark day And unfortunately now They can’t be saved.
  9. Based on previous feedback, there were 2 lines that I wanted to change and improve. I've highlighted them below. 'Invoking need in me' has been replaced by 'Seducing my need', and 'Goosebumps I'm feeling' has been replaced by 'Reaching out to her'. Hopefully better and replaced the Yoda speak it has? Lady of the Lake (Verse 1) She walks on the water She kisses the stars As light as a moonbeam As far away as Mars, Driving me crazy Mind breaking apart Lady of the lake I watch you from afar. (Pre Chorus) I am lonely Love's lonely tonight Lady I need you To make it alright (Chorus) Lady of the lake Lady of the lake … (Verse 2) She calls to the song birds She rustles the reeds As soft as a feather Seducing my need Days slow and lazy Shadows at water's edge Lady of the lake In a pale blue misty dress (Pre Chorus) I am lonely Love's lonely tonight Lady I need you To make it alright (Chorus) Lady of the lake Lady of the lake … (Bridge) Slowly she dissolves Rain drops that fall Auburn leaves swirling Under the embrace of bending trees Slowly I resolve To heed her call Reaching out to her As she wraps herself around me. (Pre Chorus) I am lonely Love's lonely tonight Lady I need you To make it alright (Chorus) Lady of the lake … Lady of the lake Lady of the lake … You give and you take Lady of the lake … Lady of the lake Lady of the lake … Always the spell must break This is a lyric I've been working on this week. I see it as a folk song that would be accompanied mainly by acoustic guitar. Lady of the Lake (Verse 1) She walks on the water She kisses the stars As light as a moonbeam As far away as Mars, Driving me crazy Mind breaking apart Lady of the lake I watch you from afar. (Pre Chorus) I am lonely Love's lonely tonight Lady I need you To make it alright (Chorus) Lady of the lake Lady of the lake … (Verse 2) She calls to the song birds She rustles the reeds As soft as a feather Invoking need in me Days slow and lazy Shadows at water's edge Lady of the lake In a pale blue misty dress (Pre Chorus) I am lonely Love's lonely tonight Lady I need you To make it alright (Chorus) Lady of the lake Lady of the lake … (Bridge) Slowly she dissolves Rain drops that fall Auburn leaves swirling Under the embrace of bending trees Slowly I resolve To heed her call Goosebumps I'm feeling As she wraps herself around me. (Pre Chorus) I am lonely Love's lonely tonight Lady I need you To make it alright (Chorus) Lady of the lake … Lady of the lake Lady of the lake … You give and you take Lady of the lake … Lady of the lake Lady of the lake … Always the spell must break

    Use The Ends/Wish I Wished

You and I have known each other For what feels like fo-orever At eighteen six years is a long time I know your ins and outs Been there for your ups and downs But I know you well enough to know you couldn’t say the same You were young and I was younger Saw it through both winter and summer I keep saying it's okay Because you didn’t know better But that doesn’t take the hurt away That sits in me every day I wish I wished you well But I hope you burn in hell Tell me, is this where you get off Hurting those who love you Force feeding your words into me Stealing my autonomy I lived my life in monotony While you made me tell you lies I told you I was fine Dried your tears even though you never cared for mine I was strong but all your hunger Ate that strength and made nights longer I keep saying it’s okay Because you didn’t know better But that doesn’t take the hurt away That sits in me every day I wish I wished you well But I hope you burn in hell You did this Three times To three people For what reasons “Oh, I’m so scared to be alone” Shut up, you soul-sucking lazy bitch The thing about all of this The kicker and the sucker punch Isn’t that you bled me dry Hung me out up on the line It’s that I could’ve forgiven you If you’d only learnt from this Use the ends to justify just how mean you were to me But you pull the same bullshit Pattern after pattern after pattern and I am done with it I can't care about you anymore I’ve been wrong but you are wronger I’ve grown up and grown softer I’ve stopped saying it's okay Because you didn’t know better Nothing will take the hurt away But I’ll keep living every day So you have fun in hell So you have fun in hell So you have fun in your self-made hell I’ll be wishing myself well

    It Matters

I wrote this lyric about the time the events were happening in Charlottesville. I had wanted to write about an incident that happened last winter to my Granddaughter that was very traumatic. I"ll include the back story. The last few days have been tough and when I was asked questions or read some questions, I realized how far we have to go. The bridge is based on what happened last December. My daughter's fiance is bi-racial and he has become in every way my Granddaughter's father. Every morning he takes her to the bus stop. But one morning, an old white lady tried to take Kindle away from Jason. She was tugging on her arm while yelling, "Get away from her! I'll call the police!" then saying to Kindle (then age 5) "He's not your kind!" and after Kindle was crying and yelling out, "Dad!" It broke my heart and I was angry and it still hurts writing about it. (the lady did call the police and of course the police told her he takes her every morning and the police chief is Jason's cousin.) Anyhow, a long back story, but I needed to write about it. It Matters © 2017 Cindy Prince I was asked why it matters Seeing those terrible flags They said it wasn't directed at me I was asked what's the harm They're just good old boys I was surprise that they couldn't see Chorus Why does it matter? Because lives were shattered It wasn't me? Why can't you see? It was directed at others? But they are my brothers It matters, it matters Bridge It matters when my Granddaughter is grabbed away from her father It matters when the lady said, "He's not your kind" It matters that my Grandson is bi-racial It matters that it's no longer 1939 I was asked why I can't let it go Why I'm angry and sad I was surprised anyone wouldn't be I was told it was all about the statues When I know it goes much deeper It should matter to both you and me Repeat Chorus

  17. <Let me know if it sounds too much like Joni Mitchell. She was definitely an influence. And also, give me tips for melody, if you can. What genre of music do you think it fits?> LYRICS: Slanted eyes and gypsy hair With a mean old crooked-smile glare She’s stupid, she’s sad, and young Swearing with her English tongue And she sings obscure forgotten songs Of lonely love and dancing nights And she laughs a little too long Otherwise she’s sighing Or even worse she’s crying Who had kissed her cowboy mouth? And caused her eyes to burn away And who could make her count the days Until he comes around He had a somber, sweet blue face And a soul of tangled tatted lace He’s crazy; spends his time alone To play his drums and xylophone Drowning out his own heartbeat And he thinks that he’s forgotten He wants to be complete But he knows he can’t defeat The aftertaste of sweetness The ugly burns of summer heat He had kissed her virgin mouth She caused his sense to go away He wanted her but couldn’t stay She hopes he’ll come around You know that he will come around In a month or two I’ll see you And I don’t care if you mind You’ll love me when you taste me I know that I’m your wine You can’t resist my cowboy mouth And you like my gypsy hair And I need your tangled tatted head And I need you to be there I know that you still care I’ll kiss your silent mouth
  18. Hey guys, Aster and Ivy here again with a demo of our song "Heavy Hearted". We found a bassist after we recorded this and are still actively looking for a drummer (that is why those instruments have been missing from our songs thus far). With that said, we would love to get feedback from you guys on the layout of the song, lyrics, etc. Even comments on the mix would be helpful too since we do the recording, mixing, and mastering ourselves for all of our demos. Sorry some of the video doesn't match with the audio, we have to overdub it because we record audio first then record video so we have a visual release as well (we were on a time crunch so we made due lol). Thanks! Lyrics: I know you weren't fond of waiting As time passed you by, it weighed heavy on your mind Your dreary heart grew faint and fading As mine grew stronger, thinking you were fine It weighed heavy on my mind It weighed heavy on our minds I know you were heavy hearted I know you're just thinking of yourself know you were heavy hearted I know you're just thinking of yourself Thinking of yourself Thinking of yourself Let us begin anew I'll take my strides away from you We'll walk our paths in different directions And you'll think clearly once again I know you were heavy hearted I know you're just thinking of yourself know you were heavy hearted I know you're just thinking of yourself Thinking of yourself Thinking of yourself Thinking of yourself Oooh's Copyright, 2017 If you want to follow us in our journey you can find us on these platforms: Subscribe on YouTube ► https://www.youtube.com/asterandivy Follow our Soundcloud ► https://soundcloud.com/user-968998146 Follow our Instagram ► https://www.instagram.com/asterandivy_official/ Like me on Facebook ► https://www.facebook.com/RealAsterandIvy/ Follow us on Twitter ► https://twitter.com/AsterAndIvy Want to be a part of the release of our upcoming EP?
