The Best Cure For Love Is Prevention V You’ll never see a ring upon my finger Married life is definitely not for me Not sure I could handle all the pressure Way to much responsibility V Seen to many broken hearts to let it happen No way I’ll fall in love and settle down I’d be waiting for the day she’d leave me Better off I move from town to town So I say C The best cure for love is prevention Don’t get that involved is what I say Keep my distance that’s my intention Have some fun-say goodbye-be on my way V I don’t lead them on with empty promises I let them know right from the start No way I’ll be walking down the isle Have me but you can’t have my heart So I say C The best cure for love is prevention Don’t get that involved is what I say Keep my distance that’s my intention Have some fun-say goodbye-be on my way B My farther left when I was young He broke my mothers heart I don’t think I could take that pain So I’ll never let it start So I say C The best cure for love is prevention Don’t get that involved is what I say Keep my distance that’s my intention Have some fun-say goodbye-be on my way Yeah I say Repeat chorus

  3. Okay, I've written a trilogy. I'm a glutton for criticism. The Wedding Ring Banjo (The Banjo Song Pt. 3) Him: I found my old banjo at her yard sale I guess she was entitled I put her through hell When I confronted her about my banjo I asked if I could take it and go Then she did the damnedest thing She plucked off one of the strings! Wrapped it around her finger Then she shared this bell ringer Her: Darling, now we're even A match made in heaven You never got me a wedding ring And now you don't have a string I'll wear this string around my finger For as long as you need to figure Where we went wrong Mister "Always Going Always Gone" Him: Time to tell the preacher man We won't be needing him as planned I was lucky to have ducked One ring found one string plucked Her: Hold on, that wedding ring banjo is going on my reality show You were lucky to have ducked One ring found one string plucked Him: Yes dear, I hear you clear, but what I fear Is that we'll still be here talking next year I believe I've paid your price a thousand fold Those last few months were bitter cold Her: Time to tell that preacher man Things haven't gone as planned He's going to chuckle One ring found one man plucked

    Orion & the Seven Sisters

[[ Folk, country, singer-songwriter, something like that. I was thinking of Aimee Mann's latest. I thought about adding another verse, but maybe that enough? It's a bit of a longing song. You should come away from a longing song feeling as if something is missing. ]] Verse 1. She has lived all the seven sins on the seven seas but shipwrecked herself in the far ambiguities. Stranded herself between the one and the other, she's married a stranger, run off with his brother, then walked out on him in the middle of a ham and cheese. Verse 2. She has places to be, and men tend to hold a girl down. So she stands in the door after dark in her slippers and gown. She already knows she'll be gone before Christmas. She just needs a night when there won't be a witness. Except for the stars that are rising up over the town. Chorus When the cold days come and Orion is hung in the sky. When the birds have flown and no one is home in the night. She will go with the hunter a sword on his belt. They will chase the seven sisters until time runs out. They will chase across the sky until time runs out. Instrumental, chorus again, and fade

    The Pickle Song

Trying again. Responding to comments. THE PICKLE SONG v1 My heart became a smoldering bruise. It crumbled when I managed to lose My lover from the Bronx, and my natural response Has been to marinate my mind in booze. v2 I’m consuming everything in reach And that ain’t just a figure of speech. A load of alcohol has been aligned along the wall And I’ve been working through a bottle of each. Chorus I’m in the Black Horse Tavern trying to soften the pain, Pickling a liver and embalming a brain. I guzzle full tilt. Take it right to the hilt. A woman brought it on and by God she’s gonna suffer the guilt. v3 The bartender calls me a schmuck. Complains about the horrible luck That every working night he has to contemplate the sight Of some bellyacher running amuck. v4 (He said) “You nincompoops are always the same. It never gets as bad as you claim. The metropolis is brimming with eleven million women Just get your body back in the game.” Chorus I’m in the Black Horse Tavern trying to soften the pain, Pickling a liver and embalming a brain. I guzzle full tilt. Take it right to the hilt. That woman brought it on and by God she’s gonna suffer the guilt. _______________________________________________________________________________ older version v1 My heart has been smoldering bruise. It just crumbled when I managed to lose My girl from Vancouver and the logical maneuver Was to marinate my mind in booze. v2 An accommodating place to begin Was the tavern of a Holiday Inn. They offer up a drink they call 'the Kitchen Sink' I've been ordering again and again. v3 The months are blowing by in a blur. As I drink and keep a’thinking of her. And the time that I been losing I have occupied musing On the stick that I been using to stir. Chorus I’m like a mortician working in a motel chain, Pickling a liver and embalming a brain, Setting up a shop upon the top of a stool To obliterate a body on account of some Canadian fool v4 The bartender called me a jerk. He said it wasn’t part of his work To grapple every night with the infuriating site Of some bellyacher going berserk. v5 (He said) “You nincompoops are always the same. It never gets as bad as you claim. The metropolis is brimming with eleven million women Just get your body back in the game.” Chorus I’m like a mortician working in a motel chain, Pickling a liver and embalming a brain, Setting up a shop upon the top of a stool To obliterate a body on account of some Canadian fool

    Dreamsville

Hi All This is a song written a while back but the band has breathed new life into it Long ago and far away But seems just like yesterday If I Close my eyes I can see the place I first saw your smiling face Find I start to drift again Maybe sleep will ease the pain Of a broken heart And a broken mind Needed space needed time CH. I find myself in Dreamsville The place where I grew up The place where I feel safe Find myself in Dreamsville Trees I used to climb Still standing tall today There in Dreamsville Across the rocky And over the bridge They said you won’t make it But I always did We carved our names and we fooled around Got home late Without a sound I make it on up to the top of the stairs After getting past Pa Asleep in his chair Laying awake with the radio on Imagining I was playing the songs Child is a memory Wonder if they think of me And how we said we’d make it big When the fuses blew at our first gig They all got married settled down I just moved from town to town Pictures I have in my mind Are the only comfort while I do my time https://soundcloud.com/user-631563129/dreamsville
  11. Hi Folks. Hope you like this little story. Sorry the words are so sparse. Open to suggestions or comments. September’s Dream My twentieth September, I had it all together Walked away from all my college friends And I hitched a ride on a different dream, hit the country music scene My folks thought I’d gone and reached the end I was young, my head was strong Learnt guitar and wrote a song Played a bar in Nashville the first time And my September’s dream was in it’s prime Pretty soon I made a demo of all the songs that I wrote And took it to the record companies When every door slammed in my face I set my jaw and raised the stakes Got a day job baggin’ groceries Friday nights I’d play my gigs Crowd would clap, I learnt my licks Wondered if I’d ever get a break And my September’s dream was running late She sat down at the table, scout from a country label Those pretty eyes were dangerous I’d been told I saw her thru the spotlight’s glare and felt a chill in her hard stare She ordered her martini icy cold I thought about which song I knew Might warm the heart in someone who Could make or break a country boy in two And I wondered if she’d make my dream come true Bridge I stood before the crowd alone Just me and that ol’ microphone Sang a song I wrote a week before Every word was from the heart I closed my eyes and played guitar Til every chord I strummed bared my soul And my September’s dream began to roll When my song was over I wondered if I showed her Anything at all she might embrace But when I open up my eyes she’d melted in the candlelight A shiny little tear ran down her face Fell in love right then and there That crowd just vanished in thin air Suddenly her smile was in its place And my September’s Dream had found some grace Well, I dreamed of things my way, now I’m king of the highway People know me everywhere I go She’s now taking care of the kids alone and booking all my gigs from home Calls to tell me what I need to know How Lily slammed that ball today Willow sang in her school play And Mommy’s tired of sleeping all alone So my September’s Dream is coming home I can feel it as that diesel starts to drone Me and my September’s rolling home Copyright 2017 ~ Joseph W. McMichael
  12. Hi... Anyone up for doing the vocals for this one? Male or female... A true romance He’s been watching her From a distance every day Never gathered up the courage To take her hand, just to take her away Many love songs later Behind the curtains wetted with lonely tears Drowning sorrow in Sir Daniels Drowning sorrow as well as fears Chorus: She’s been kissing strangers On her front porch all life long Up until that moment Where all hope for that special one was gone And she shut her self in Never leaving him a chance To showing her how much he cares To offer her his true romance All the rednecks boys that she’s been dating Up so far All they really had to offer her Are their pick-up trucks and the backseat of old rusty cars Empty words and promises Diluted in her tears Somehow she neglected to notice The boy who in a crowd would disappear Chorus: She’s been kissing strangers… And when finally she gave up And her very last time had come The church was full of empty spaces Of empty chairs all except for one Chorus: She’s been kissing strangers…

    Put Something Real On

So for any of you that has saw the Netflix show the (RANCH), this song was inspired by Sam Elliot's Character (Beau Bennett). If you have not watched it I strongly recommend giving it a watch. It's one of the funniest shows I've seen also has Ashton Kutcher in it. Sam Elliot's character is extremely old school and traditional and his lines throughout the show inspired this. Any feedback on how to improve it would be much appreciated. Thanks. 20. Hello all, I posted this thing without a thought to the international nature of these forums. That dog won’t hunt is a regional idiom from the deep south of the U.S. and as I understand it and use it here it means ‘that argument or line of reasoning isn’t going to work’. It’s one of those wonderful colloquialisms but unfortunately for me, I realized after I wrote most of this, that the expression was used by Waylon, not Merle, (thanks Gary) only a few years back, so this lyric is all for naught. Oh well. Edits: made V1 present tense. Replaced ‘that’ with ‘some’ in CH, waylon replaces merle dog won’t hunt for me no more (orig was ... not for me anymore) Most times when you screw up I know just what to do I let you say you’re sorry And I hope to god it’s true This time y’hurt me too much Ain’t like the times before I run out of forgiveness So I’m showing you the door You think you can choke up And get down on your knees With your little (bitty) hound dog eyes Sayin pretty pretty please Well that dog won’t hunt CH Not for me anymore So get up off your knees Cuz i just cleaned that floor And I dont want no fleas From some cheap sleazy - - - (pause) Girl- thats for sure Go find your way To the far side of that door Cuz that dog won’t hunt for me no more. This time things’s diff’rent That’s what you tryin’ say? Well that tail you were chasing Doesn’t live here go away Cuz that dog won’t hunt. CH Not for me anymore So get up off your knees Cuz i just cleaned that floor And I don’t want no fleas From some cheap sleazy- - - (pause) Girl- Thats for sure. Go find your way To the far side of that door Cuz that dog won’t hunt for me no more. (replaced: not for me anymore) Well a buck and all your sorry’s might buy a cup at Mickey Dee’s But your luck with sorry ass excuses has plain run out with me Cuz that dog won’t hunt. CH Not for me anymore So get up off your knees Cuz i just cleaned that floor And I don’t want no fleas From some cheap sleazy- - - (pause) Girl- Thats for sure. Go find your way To the far side of that door Cuz that dog won’t hunt for me no more. apologies to Waylon, not Merle, for using the dog won’t hunt line

  22. I submitted this one, as a bare-bones bedroom demo to a contest here last year. But, I thought I would put it here in fully-produced glory, for y'all's feedback. I hope that you like it. https://hoponpop.bandcamp.com/track/if-you-knew LYRICS: 1. I put on my outside smile As I step out the front door And I’ll admit that it’s been harder But I won’t say a whole lot more If you felt the things I’m feeling If you saw the things I saw You would let me throw my cards out Then let me draw, draw, draw, draw, draw 2. I smile through the morning And I grimace through the day And I’ll answer all your questions But I won’t have much to say If you felt the things I’m feeling If you knew the things I know Please don’t read too much in to it Just let it go, go, go, go, go (bridge/solo) 3. These things I carry on my shoulders They fit underneath my shirt And they say it will make me stronger But they don’t say how much it hurts If you felt the things I’m feeling You just might never want to feel If you lived the life I’m living It’d make you reel, reel, reel, reel, reel If you knew the things I’m knowing There’s things you’d never want to know But please don’t read too much in to it Just let it go, go, go, go, go Let it go…
  23. We have lost so many good ones. I thought I had music for this, but it never happened. Thoughts? A One- of -a -Kind Edition (For Glen Campbell) © 2017 Cindy Prince One of my crushes I think I was eight Not even sure where Phoenix was Looked at his picture On my Dad's album I thought him a genius because His singing carried me away To places I'd never heard of Like Galveston and Wichita There was something in his voice That told me so much That left me in a state of awe Chorus His music brought the world a whole lot of joy He was more than a Rhinestone Cowboy A brilliant singer, a guitar magician Have a moment-stop and listen A one- of -a -kind edition Bridge I hate that he suffered and forgot who he was I imagine him in heaven bowing to applause He seemed so familiar Like someone we knew He seemed like the kid next door But the talent he had Somehow lifted us all Left us better than we were before Repeat Chorus
  24. Gosh do we keep losing one wonderful singers after another! I so loved Don Williams and wanted to write something down when he died. I didn't do him justice, and this no doubt needs changes, but this is what I have so far. Gentle Giant (For Don Williams) © 2017 Cindy Prince A gentle giant, a gentle man Such joy you brought us in your lifespan We listened to you over and over again Didn't need fortune or fame But nearly everybody knew your name And because of you we were never the same Pre chorus Some broken hearts never mend, Some memories never end Chorus I'm sure good old boys go to heaven And though we don't want to say goodbye We have so many songs to remember you by We'll sing you back home one last time Bridge We believed in your music And we believed in you And we'll think of you under live oak trees We'll remember when we hear Hank and Tennesee And witness those soft southern breezes Repeat chorus Outro Now your life on earth is through We'll be missing you
