  3. Poem To Lyric And Royalties

The woman wanted only to give me credit but in case it made money wanted to keep it all. I thought it fair that if she was going to change my poem into lyrics that I should get half of the credit for writing the lyrics or one quarter ownership of the song. To this she wouldn't agree and said she was too busy. But if I had given up everything she would have done it. For the record here's the poem. Sincerely, John Kaniecki Vision Of Compassion By John Kaniecki I object to the rule of might Satanic soldiers sickly insane I will do what is right For Love and kindness is never vain Raise your voice lift a clenched fist Resist! 4. Hello, Hope all are well. I write poems for people on Facebook for new friends on their birthdays. It is my hope that they will purchase my books which happens once in about a week and a half. Also on the upside is that I am motivated to write, I write on topics I would never have thought of and my collection is growing extremely voluminous. So today a woman replied with this. WOW - your powerful poem gave me tears of hope! No promises (maybe just a pipe dream), but as long as you are credited, do we have permission to put it to music, record, distribute for $ pls? (Lucky if we break even.) Which will require modifying the words, deleting some and adding others etc, to turn 'em into lyrics. (My son is discarding a couple of songs due to bad lyrics but w/ great music, and he's a better songwriter than me, so maybe I'll adapt these lyrics there.) PS I'm ordering your book. Anyway I'm not prepared just to let her use my poem without a share of the royalties. But what would the proper percentage be? On one side of the chicken farm I don't want to get ripped off, on the other side of the chicken farm I don't want to lose an opportunity. I offered to work with the woman with my lyrics but as of yet I made no commitment to allow her to use my poem. So could anybody help? Sincerely, John Kaniecki
  5. Time To Stand Up? by John Kaniecki When Pilgrim pride Committed genocide Did you stand? When from across the sea Merchants delt chattel slavery Did you stand? When immigrants of all ages Were paid starvation wages Did you stand? When Jim Crow did reign Inflicting bitter pain Did you stand? When they desecrated sacred Mother Earth Violating indigenous worth Did you stand? When imperialism dominated And atrocities were created Did you stand? When the police time and time again Gun down black young men Did you stand? When the C.I.A. in sin Flooded the hood with heroin Did you stand? When trillions were spent on war And nothing to the poor Did you stand? Did you stand for every injustice and wrong? Then why should I stand for your racist song?
  6. Pandora's Box Is Empty

Pandora’s Box Judge a man by his clothes, how were you born Christ the King he knows a crown made of thorns Fascists in business suits promoting lies Press the tragic button everyone dies Pandora’s Box is empty Do you have eyes to see Pandora’s Box is empty Slaves in the Land of the Free Pandora’s Box is empty War is declared I got scared full of fright Anger surged inside what gives you the right Across the globe a world away they say The evil infidel we’ll make them pay Pandora’s Box is empty Do you have eyes to see Pandora’s Box is empty Slaves in the Land of the Free Pandora’s Box is empty Fracking in the Earth water is destroyed Businessman makes money he’s overjoyed Who cares about the future I got mine This hell hole was once Eden divine Pandora’s Box is empty Do you have eyes to see Pandora’s Box is empty Slaves in the Land of the Free Pandora’s Box is empty There’s a golden chest Treasure is the best Gold, silver, Mammon Endless war and famine Hatred, greed, strife All the pains of life Children singing praise to the god of lust Bow before the priest give man all you trust Stalin, Hitler demagogues of pain In the institutions find the sane Pandora’s Box is empty Do you have eyes to see Pandora’s Box is empty Slaves in the Land of the Free Pandora’s Box is empty http://johnkaniecki.weebly.com/
  7. The Shape of You

Octagons have too many sides- That's a great line. It would be heard to fit but how about "Parallelograms are sometimes square" Or how about "I'm on a straight line right to you" "Every time I leave I circle back to you" Reminds me of high school geometry which I enjoyed.
  8. Come Back to Me

I would call it maybe "A song for my lover" Also in verse 3 I like the wind as your lover. The end is nice as well. As long as we have our dear ones in our mind we are not alone.
  9. Pitching Music Demos To Record Companies

Dear Chris, Hope you are well. Thanks for your words. My wife needs somebody twenty four hours a day to attend to her. In addition to my writing, which is primarily poetry and prose, I also volunteer as a minister at a Church of Christ in the South Ward of Newark. So basically I have three full time jobs with no pay, I say that tongue and cheek. Despite my large collection of lyrics I have only a handful of what could be called demos. Basically I am hoping for some kind of miracle. I have had enough success with the prose and poetry to give me hope. That is I have been published by small independent publishers. But marketing is the problem. Yeah if I do become an overnight success it will be thirty years in the making. Sincerely, John Kaniecki
  10. Just wanted to thank you for the time for answering my questions and share the second of what probably will turn out to be three songs with Ashish. I think this is more commercial.

  11. This is the first of twelve songs that Ashish and I plan to do. The second one is more pop in style. I would appreciate any feedback both positive and negative that you could give. I am actively looking for people to work on my lyrics. I have over thirty years of stuff the vast majority of which has never been seen besides me. They are all copyrighted. Life's circumstances, as my wife is ill, is prohibiting me from working a regular job. So between my writing and my music I am hoping for a miracle. http://johnkaniecki.weebly.com/ I gave this song to Ashish as he is a big Doors fan. I didn't think the lyric was very good, feeling some of the rhymes were trite. But when Ashish put it to music and I heard it I thought it worked out well, a little bit witty and clever. Somebody already has mentioned the mixing of the words that the lyrics are too hard to hear. https://soundcloud.com/ashish-kejriwal-yohaku/au-de-restaurant Au De Restaurant (k29) Last night I saw Jim Morison’s twin brother It had to be him it could be none other He was singing blues in a little French café And boy did he sure parlez vous francais The waiter came by and said bonjour I pointed to my beer and said some more Then I spotted a sweet mademoiselle I knew she wanted me I could just tell Au de restaurant You got what I want Au de restaurant You got what I want Well I saw mademoiselle staring at me She came by and said je m’appelle Marie The dame sat next to me right at the table I tell you I was willing and able I told her you are a beautiful lady She looked at me and said no speaka anglais Then she said something with the word l’armour That word meant love I heard it before So I hastily said my au revoir Then I left Marie and went to the bar Au de restaurant You got what I want Au de restaurant You got what I want I was sitting next to long dead Jim’s twin He was drinking from a bottle of gin He whispered no one hear gets out alive I laughed in his face and said you’re full of jive He gave a quick chuckle and smiled a grin He said to me they way you talk it’s a sin I said who appointed you God and Lord He took a swig of gin and said no word I was fairly drunk my head started to swim I said Mister who do you think you are Jim Au de restaurant You got what I want Au de restaurant You got what I want Yes all that stuff happened to my yesterday At a French place called the Dead Man’s café They got what you want Au de restaurant
  12. Revolution

I was attracted to this song in particular for the title of the song. Your voice is pretty and the song full of meaning. Reminds me a little of Tracy Chapman. Nice work.
  13. Are You Out There?

Your voice sounds very nice and it works well standing out. But as FeatherLeaf has so wisely said “Why should I yearn for the stars when I have not learned the pebbles?” The production is very well done as well. Great job!! http://johnkaniecki.weebly.com/
  14. Interesting Times

First impulse is that your intro voice sounds like Frank Zappa. I love a song lyric that addresses something that is important and meaningful. Hopefully the folk generation can return to it's needed place. There is some good imagery here. This is the part I like the best. Verse 2:Diapers rotting in our landfillsfor the next 500 yearsgenocides in Africabut few of us shed tears If I was to make a criticism it would me in the mixing of the music. Too much going on and I want to focus on your voice and message more.
  15. Born To Chase The Wind

Hello everybody. It's been a long time but I'm coming back here. I am looking for a collaborator for my lyrics as circumstances won't let me work a regular job. Here is something that is twenty three years old. I have hundreds like this in my archives all copyrighted. If anybody has an interest please let me know. Born to Chase the Wind By John Kaniecki copyright 1994 The dusty old trail is calling me on Come the morning and I will be gone And all that will be left of you and me Will just be a pleasant memory I never made a promise to you my love I didn’t take an oath to God above I’ll remember you I tell you no lie At least until the next gal comes by Well I was born to chase the wind It’s such a sad life my friend Yeah I was born to chase the wind And I see that it’s blowing again I got a pack with a couple of things I never know what tomorrow brings Maybe sunshine or clouds overhead I hope I’m luck enough to find a bed No I ain’t a bum don’t you say so I’m a wandering worker a regular hobo I’ll clean your house or wash your car Then I’ll relax and play my guitar Well I was born to chase the wind It’s such a sad life my friend Yeah I was born to chase the wind And I see that it’s blowing again My roof is the sky On green grass I lie Too tired to weep Gently I sleep Dreams inside my mind Of some better time Then comes the morn And I’m back on my journ Well I was born to chase the wind It’s such a sad life my friend Yeah I was born to chase the wind And I see that it’s blowing again With you good sir I’ll travel a while Pass the whiskey and make me smile I can tell you a tale or sing you a song It really helps that the liquor is strong Ever since Adam when he ate from the tree All that man knew was misery Talk about woman I think about Eve If it weren’t for her we’d never grieve Well I was born to chase the wind It’s such a sad life my friend Yeah I was born to chase the wind And I see that it’s blowing again Well one day I shall enter my rest I’ll look God in the eye cause I’ve done my best I may go to heaven I may go to hell The future’s uncertain who can tell But this I know as a solid fact I’ll have good times for me to look back Yes I’ll have just one request in the end O God Allmighty let me catch the wind Well I was born to chase the wind It’s such a sad life my friend Yeah I was born to chase the wind And I see that it’s blowing again And I see that it’s blowing again
