Mountain Top 1/ So solid You’ve grown quicker than I wanted A man now I acknowledge setting off for first year college Lean, tall ,Built like a concrete wall and smart - brains and heart you've got it all. Branching Like a rocket that is launching A mission Seeking stardust And you Always tried your hardest So free So take my words will you please With your mothers easy first time recipes Ch/ While others lay in peaceful meadows Wade in valley streams Love but look beyond the good times To be sure they fuel your dreams Keep seeking and don't stop Until you’ve found your mountain top 2/ Love desire- Two flames that burn in any fire But one will gut and flicker Leave you cold as lonely liquor The other is truthful and bold Partner and a friend and a hand to hold When she’s there hold her close to show you care Beyond the parties and the laughter To the quiet that comes after Act slow when heavy storm clouds blow Wait and those rain breaks will help you grow Ch/ While others lay in peaceful meadows Wade in valley streams Love but look beyond the good times To be sure they fuel your dreams Keep seeking and don't stop Until you’ve found your mountain top 3/ Stuff - don't trap yourself in more than just enough Clutter clouds your brain Like blood slowly clotting in a vein Bling? There's an emptiness in things That music if you choose it claps but never sings Career - People always wanna sneer Say money’s what it all comes down to but the wrong job gently drowns you - If the shadow on a sunday night reveals its not right , don't chase the pay scale, chase what heals Br/ And one day you’ll be like me Eyes on a grown child of your own Wondering where the time has flown He’ll be ready to cut free Feel the ticking clock and the rolling dice And you’ll try to share the same advice : Ch/ While others lay in peaceful meadows Wade in valley streams Love but look beyond the good times To be sure they fuel your dreams Keep seeking and don't stop Until you’ve found your mountain top

Master of the hunt Intro This is a real sport, with dogs, and shells and gun Meet the Master hunter, lord of all bar none At last The hunting season was back once again He was itching to go out and bag him some game Ch If only his mates Could see him now The master of the hunt Showing off his expert know how 2 Being the master of the hunt fills him with pride Wild animals run in fear and hide What a big man he feels with marksman skill For lunch he can booze and eat of his kill. Ch If only his mates Could see him now The master of the hunt Showing off his expert know how 3 Back to the hunt after lunch is devoured Feeling a touch groggy from the drink that they downed A half buried branch, a trip a discharged gun. What fate he's been shot in the legs by his chum 4 His friends all visit him lying in his bed In the ward where they took off his legs He will never again be the master of the hunt Or the big man he thought he was once Thank god his mates can't see him now'

Box of Frogs V1 When my brothers and I were just dumb kids With no rhyme or reason to the things we did We'd go into the marshes at night with a torch To taunt old lady Crummert as she sat on her porch We'd call her grumpy, crummy, old hag We'd throw rocks, sticks, dog poop in a bag (chorus) "21, 25, 32, 33". She'd always yell at my brothers and me Old lady Crummert out there in the bogs Strange and crazy as a box of frogs V2 We moved the next summer to Thompson falls And I hardly thought of old Crummert at all I didn't think much bout the things we had done Until Roy died when he was just 21 And for a minute or two, my time was spent Wondering if that 's what old Crummert had meant (chorus) "21, 25, 32, 33". She'd always yell at my brothers and me Old lady Crummert out there in the bogs Strange and crazy as a box of frogs V3 Carl died at 30 and Jeff at 25 And then I was the only one still alive I thought back on that woman of wrinkles and bone And wondered if there was still time to atone I went back to the bogs and ventured in With one last hope of saving my skin (chorus) "21, 25, 32, 33". She'd always yell at my brothers and me Old lady Crummert out there in the bogs Strange and crazy as a box of frogs V4 I brought her a flower and a bottle of scotch She said 'you're late' and tapped her bare wrist She said "come sit a spell while I tell you my life for I once was a mother, I once was a wife I know you kids thought me strange and deranged its my curse to see fates that can not be changed" (chorus) "21, 25, 32, 33". She'd always yell at my brothers and me Old lady Crummert out there in the bogs Strange and crazy as a box of frogs V5 She had lived quite a life before she was old Unable to stop what her dreams had foretold. when fate left her alone in bitter defeat She found the bogs as her only retreat then she turned and stared straight at me And said "tell me the things even I can not see" V6 I told her things that no one knew of hard times too many and good times too few Each word that came out brought along more I told dreams and secrets never spoken before We talked and talked, we wept and cried And when we were done, she dozed off and died. V7 I buried her next to her favorite tree And on that day I turned 33 I went back to her shack and had a quick look Nothing much inside except the one book With new found courage I returned from the bogs To my world as crazy as a box of frogs.

Olives and clementines (Verse 1) Olives and clementines once grew here Gaggles of children zig-zagging and laughing, Cats and dogs lazing in the shade Well-fed from the tidbits that we gave away. (Verse 2) Olives and clementines once grew here Picked by young mothers giggling preciously, Men and boys kicking balls on the grass Enjoying our lives as we did every day. (Bridge) Then the bombs came And the bullets rained, The graveyard, ravenous Swallowed our loved ones, Leaving only their names (Verse 3) Olives and clementines once grew here Now barb wire and barricades lurk horribly, Boys and girls crouching in the shadows They know their futures will be counted in wars. (Outro) Amidst all the carnage Life goes on; A hairdresser sings in his salon A lover dreams of his girl far away An amputee daddy carries his baby And the sun sets on another day

Cold Creek Water “Whites Only” signs in Mississippi Elvis Presley on the radio She drives a Chevy Belair She's off to meet him In the dark somewhere Her daddy can never know Restless skies and distant thunder Headlights coming down a dirt road She rushes to his arms They fall together In the eye of the storm In the backwoods of Mississippi They have more courage than they know By the cold creek water Yeah the cold creek water. . . A preacher’s son and a banker’s daughter Two young lovers by the cold creek water Black and white In the Mississippi moonlight Changing hearts in Mississippi Like the music on the radio Jukebox and jitterbug The Wolfman a howlin’ Kids just having fun Even in old Mississippi Only the young can change the old By the cold creek water Yeah the cold creek water. . . A preacher’s son and a banker’s daughter Two young lovers by the cold creek water Black and white In the Mississippi moonlight Elvis Presley on the radio <Bridge> Black and white in Mississippi The whole town still says it’s a crime Fires in the night, men cloaked in white Only love would cross that line <solo> On a train bound for New York City She’s just beginning to show He looks into her eyes As the cities, towns And farms rush by Going where their love can grow They have more courage than they know By the cold creek water Yeah the cold creek water. . . A preacher’s son and a banker’s daughter Two young lovers by the cold creek water Black and white In the Mississippi moonlight Elvis Presley on the radio Love me tender, never let go Love me tender, never let go Love me tender, never let go. . .

When I Get to California V1 Packing up my bags in silence… Loaded up and gone before it’s light. When you wake up read my letter, I know you deserve much better… Than being left in the middle of the night. V2 I put your favorite record on the player… “Blue-Ridge Mountain Blues” by Bill Munroe. You were always good, I just can’t love you like I should… So it’s time for me to head on down the road. Chorus I’ll call you when I get to California. I know this is hard to understand. It’s not that I don’t want to be your woman. I don’t know how to let you be my man. V3 I never meant to hurt nobody… I don’t know why enough’s just not enough. I wanted to let you in, Now I’ve run away again… Getting gone before the going got too tough. Chorus I’ll call you when I get to California. I know this is hard to understand. It’s not that I don’t want to be your woman. I don’t know how to let you be my man. Bridge The sun is rising over the highway. And I wonder if I’ll always be this way. Chorus I’ll call you when I get to California. I know this is hard to understand. It’s not that I don’t want to be your woman. I don’t know how to let you be my man.

You Made Me Laugh Verse 1 Hey, do you remember the night we met You sat down next to me out of the rain dripping wet I made room for you on that ol’ Greyhound bus As it headed into Virginia, DC and us Verse 2 I’d been heading nowhere on the interstate South Carolina to Phili hadn’t settled my fate Got mugged in Richmond, had to work dead-end bars My ol’ guitar played Johnny Cash as I covered the stars Chorus You were my life line, my solid ground From all the boozing and brooding You turned my life around Your disarming smile set me on a new path And for the first time in years You made me laugh Verse 3 Found it so easy opening up to you The miles fell away as we swapped points of view You didn’t like Elvis, I didn’t like Garth Brooks And you blushed when I said, I love your looks Chorus You were my life line, my solid ground From all the boozing and brooding You turned my life around Your disarming smile, set me on a new path And for the first time in years You made me laugh Break And I’d sang songs of travelin’ I’d sang plenty of blues I never went to Vegas Just too many ways to lose The holy grail was Nashville Where promoters are like honey pots Swarmed around by singers Clambering over each other, to reach the top – and I’d stopped Chorus You were my life line, my solid ground From all the boozing and brooding You turned my life around Your disarming smile set me on a new path And for the first time in years You made me laugh Tag And for the first time in years You made me laugh

Pelicans Verse 1 I’ve held her hand in many a troubling wind When her spirit scattered like the leaves ’Cause it’s so like her, so like her, so like her To look right at a gale and see a breeze Verse 2 I’ve cradled her on days when she hated life When her spirit shattered just like glass But it’s so like me, so like me, so like me To wrap my hands around what I can’t grasp (Chorus) And the pelicans are flying to the north across the bay I watch them from the window while I pack I beg her “Come with me” ’Cause I know I won’t be back But her empty suitcase says she’s gonna stay And the pelicans are flying from the bay Verse 3 The miracle is we understood the odds But we shared our feelings undeterred It was so like us, so like us, so like us To do it all without a single word (Chorus) Now the pelicans are flying to the north across the bay I watch them from the window while I pack I beg her “Come with me” ’Cause I know I won’t be back But her empty suitcase says she’s gonna stay And the pelicans are flying from the bay (Bridge) She finally figured out my love won’t free her I finally have a feel for all her pain But life is pushing me into the skies tomorrow The pelicans and I must go our way (Instrumental) (Chorus) And the pelicans are flying to the north across the bay I watch them from the window while I pack I beg her “Come with me” ’Cause I know I won’t be back But her empty suitcase says she’s gonna stay And the pelicans are flying from the bay (Repeat)

Pontification We asked you to prepare a short report The key word to remember here is "short" But attempts to print it out broke our machine Good thing it did - 'cause we saved all those trees Pontification Pontification You've got our patience Wearing thin You go on, and on, and on, and on, and on We think you're done Then you go on ... again A wedding speech is a few words for the happy two But the key word you'd forgotten here is "few" By the time we had endured your diatribe The groom had fled the country with his bride Pontification Pontification You've got our patience Wearing thin You go on, and on, and on, and on, and on, and on, and on, and on We hope you're done But you go on ... and on again bridge: Eventually you'll die and go to hell Where you can plead your case for mercy to the devil But when he learns about your trouble being frank He'll send you back to us, and say.. "No Thanks" "NO THANKS!!" Pontification Pontification You've got our patience Wearing thin You go on, and on, and on, and on, and on, and on, and on, and on We pray you're done But you go on ... and on, and on So - are you done? No - you go on, and on, and on Oh - come on! You go on, and on, and on, and on, and on, and on....
