Heck, I'm impressed with what you've done so far. This is an extremely well-done forum. At this point, I think we just need to drive more traffic to it, get more artists on here.

I agree. The site is looking good these days. If only someone could figure out how to generate a little more traffic. The open bar idea might be a good place to start. 😀

Any objections to creating a forum thread/section that focuses on sound design and tips n' tricks?
EDIT: Seriously, for audio tweakers like myself, I would love to have a place where we post cool mixing/production/sound design techniques we learn, and discuss them. It would be a good compliment to the existing "Recording Tips" and "Music Theory" boards.

I have an improvement idea. Unless of course you can explain to me how to do something. Over at the Artist Cafe I have tried in the past to post some photos of my artwork. Unless that isn’t something people want to see on a songwriter forum. But it is called the “Artist” Cafe. Surely it would be a cool place to share our art that isn’t music or words. But I have never been able to figure out how to upload a photo there. Most modern day forums have a simple way to upload photos. I don’t see anything like that here. I admit to not being the most computer savvy person out there. But I never had problems trying to upload photos anywhere else. Is it possible to make it easier to upload photos? Unless of course it’s already easy and I’m missing something.

Thanks! JOe

OK - so an open bar (sounds wonderful)

@Moso I'd be happy to open a sound design forum if there is enough support. Maybe ask around? Alternatively, maybe we could rename an existing forum to broaden it out a bit (e.g. Recording Tips could become Digital Audio Software and Techniques ... or something)

@Onewholovesrock - sorry, I should have read replies sooner. You should simply be able to include a picture of your artwork as an attachment. If you do that, it shows in your post (I just tried). To attach, look at the bottom of the box you type into and see where it says "Drag files here to attach, or choose files" - use that. Drop me a note if you have issues.

And yes, more traffic is always good. I'm lazy, but open to any ideas that aren't TOO much work :)

Apparently my iPhone photos aren’t the right format. Which is weird as iPhone photos are probably the most used photos in the world. Not sure what format they are in and it’s probably easy to change. But as a suggestion for page improvements I found it a little hard to upload photos here. I was hoping for a simple click and drop. Which is how it will be if I convert my photo format.

Looks like iOS uses the HEIC format, perhaps for compression purposes. It has built-in HEIC to JPG software, which happens automatically, but it seems that not everything triggers that. A little more info can be found here:

As Windows 10 doesn't really support HEIC yet, you are probably better off using more standard formats - at least for now (JPG, GIF, PNG etc)

The website is running Windows 10?

EDIT: My guess is the problem is either his phone or the iOS software in general right now. Somewhere along the chain, his photos aren't getting converted. When they probably should be.

No, but many people are and I don't imagine many browsers support HEIC yet either. Even older Macs can't open them.

I could make HEIC uploadable (it isn't right now) but would like to be sure everyone can handle it. Well, that and my innate dislike of Apple that makes me not want to bend for them until it's easy.

This looks like it may be a settings issue. I'll PM him on it before this thread is inadvertently hijacked.

Where do you think would be a good place to compile contests around the web, I mean like $$ contests? For example, 8Dio runs annual contests, several a year I think, in which they give over $25,000 worth of software in prizes. There are a lot of contests out there that do things like give away gear, cash, studio time, etc. I thought it would be a good idea to keep a running list of these.

I'd suggest Self Promotion and Advertisements (most are money making schemes, after all). Alternatively, I guess a community blog might work (and could also serve to warn people away from the less reputable contests).

True, there seem to be a lot of sketchy ones out there. I was just wondering the best way to compile (and critique) existing contests/upcoming contests. It would have to be something easily updated. Maybe just a simple forum post where the top post is updated as info below is added/discussed.

Btw, I'll probably start up the Muse instrumentals contest again, come 2018. And I think I'll open it up to all entries. (Had been running it as a "Create Now!" type of deal.) I mean, if there are no objections.

No problem at all (maybe run it in other contests to avoid any clash with other contests) - and yes, an open contest makes sense (with an instrumental it would be hard to tell if it had been created in a specific timescale in any case!)

Alistair, some threads get very long, and it's a hassle having to scroll all the way down to the bottom each time one wants to see the last few posts in a thread.

Would it be possible to insert a 'skip to bottom of thread' button at the top of each thread, so that one click would bring the viewer straight down to the last post?

I'm not sure I can add that, Donna. However, if you want to go to the last post, simply click on the posting time ...

Do you mean improvement for existing members or to make it more attractive in the market place

to improve the site we dshould go back to scoring lyric and song competitions out of ten there was more room for variation in the scoring

To attract more members is harder, maybe start blogs outside this site on the worldwide Webb ( not my expertise)

I think this site is much more friendly and accessible than any other sites ,and we are lucky the fact that some great Musers are on hand to help, with no alternative  motives, we have some very experienced people dealing with all sorts of problems, I doubt there is a sjubjesct that could not be sorted.

All the best

Mike

This place is long overdue for a collaboration contest (pairing a lyricist & a musician) as well as variations in standard lyric contests which should from time to time challenge people to step outside of their circle of life where a set criteria is designed  and or set up for whomever enters a given contest and with specific parameters.

I'm assuming most of us here are creative but with that said, speaking for myself, this creative mind would like a little more spice added to the mix of things around Muse Canyons. Even the same old , same old can get monotonous and boring, with a routine that instead of bringing more people into the fold, can isolate (over time) the same characters into dead end pools without variety equating to nothing more than the stale bar syndrome with pats on the back.  I think from time to time, a few activities such as the above mentioned (at least once a year, maybe late Spring or summertime (north of the equator) :P) could help to improve the site activity not to mention stimulate the creative juices and interest.  I also think, these kinds of activities can potentially bring the community together when sharing in a goal and or activity mutually interested in.

Just some thoughts.

Hi Alistair

one of the most fun things on this site is a collaboration contest

it really sets my brain on fire,

is it possible to have one please,

go on you know you want to! 😄

If we get one, I'll buy the Mod a drink of their choice

And that's a promise

All the best

Mike
