The Thinman is back - you're gonna love this one !!

Robby

xxxx

Change

A shadow passed across my door

I never felt that chill before

I knew a hound dog found my trail

I heard a siren wail

Everything is different from now on

That was then and it’s all gone

Time is a bitch and she’s never late

My fashion statement is out of date

Looking for heaven and all I found

Is the sky - and it’s fallen down

God was looking at me

He said “Heaven is history”

Change ---- is gonna come

One day ---- for everyone

and change ---- can be unkind

Change ---- will change your mind

but change ---- is not decline

Change ---- will take you higher - you’re gonna Change

I seen angels and demons

But mostly demons

They come at me when I'm drinkin'

They come at me when I'm dreamin'

I seen angels and demons - but mostly demons

One time a 3 foot demon came at me

With a cup of blood and a piece of meat

He said "This is the devil's communion

You gotta drink and you gotta eat

You gotta drink and you gotta eat"

And one time a demon

Came into my room

He was as tall as the ceiling

He was kinda draped

Every kind of shape

I didn't like that demon

And he said "One day all of thisssssssssss

Can be yoursssssssssssssss"

I didn't like that demon

Didn't lie him at all

He said

"It’s not the lies that you been sold

And it’s not the rags of growing old

In the stare of the devil’s eyes

They tell you all the religious lies

God said to Abraham – kill me a son

Abe was a believer and he got the job done"

Change ---- is gonna come

Better ---- for everyone

and change ---- is not a fight

Change ---- can be delight

and change ---- is gonna hurt

but Change ---- aint gonna wait for you - you’re gonna change

This was a collaboration effort, though none would accept credit on the song, they helped me very much.

Lyrics-Basic Melody-Kimberly Hales Kime (kimberlyinnc)

Gonna Start a Bonfire

I'll burn the strip of photographs

Taken in that tiny booth

You were making silly faces

We laughed the whole day through

I'll burn all the love letters

The heart shaped Valentines

The ones I have read

at least a thousand times

Chorus

Gonna start a bonfire

Oh, I think its time

Stack it high with memories

And fan it with goodbye

Gonna start a bonfire

And build it ten miles high

Watch it light up the sky

while I kiss our love goodbye

When I caught you in the parking lot

Lip stick marks were on your face

The desire burning in your eyes

Revealed the truth that day

I bet you've never told her

All the plans that we have made

But I won't try to stop you

My heart just walked away

Repeat Chorus

Musical Break

Bridge

Your blind passion made the flames burn oh so bright

What I thought was eternal love went up in smoke tonight

Repeat Chorus

Tag

Gonna start a bonfire, Gonna start a bonfire gonna start a bonfire, (fading)

One Last Chance To Shine

Alistair S

An ordinary man in an ordinary town,

Ordinary shoes in an ordinary brown,

Getting old, and I’m,

Like these worn out boots of mine,

Looking for one last chance to shine

One last chance to shine,

One last chance to get it right,

Looking for one last chance to shine.

An ordinary night in an ordinary bar,

An ordinary singer and a battered, old guitar.

Music helps, I find,

Ease a troubled mind,

Looking for one last chance to shine

One last chance to shine,

One last chance to get it right,

Looking for one last chance to shine.

Lonely people here don’t ever talk - won’t share the time of day.

Driven by our fear, we always walk on by and look the other way.

It’s an ordinary life; an ordinary world.

An ordinary boy can meet an ordinary girl.

Couples passing by,

Happens all the time.

Lost in love, with every chance to shine.

One last chance to shine,

One last chance to get it right,

Looking for one last chance to shine.

An ordinary man, of ordinary means

An ordinary longing to escape the old routines

An ordinary guy

Long since past his prime

Looking for one last chance to shine

Looking for one last chance to shine.

Looking for one last chance to shine.

Just Trust the Tales

Music : Tanguy Thoveron (Zeligovitch)

Lyrics : Tanguy Thoveron and Malin Hellman

These words of mine

Are leading you on

I tell you of my travels

At dawn

Imagination

Can lead you where

You shouldn't take your luggage

But air

Just trust the tales

You are hearing

Made by my mind for your thoughts

I'm making up

And you're believing

It's about walking on the moon

Like little Thumb

When he had boots

You escape from your ogre

And find our roots

Weightlessness is a treasure

For the woman who

Is taken by the pleasure

Of you

Just trust the tales

You are hearing

Made by my mind for your thoughts

I'm making up

And you're believing

It's about walking on the moon

Imagination

Can lead you where

You shouldn't take your luggage

But air

The Fall Of Man

Jason Kalman

Verse I

I traveled time

To where the Tigris and Euphrates bind

Past the armed Cherubim

And the beautiful Seraphim

At the tree of knowledge

Stands a girl

Chorus

It’s the fall of Man

It’s the fall from Grace

If I stop Eve now

Could I change our fate?

It's the fall of a man

It's the fall of Man

Verse II

Eve, I know it’s hard for you to understand

The role you play in the fall of man

I beg you please just put down the prize

And walk away from the serpent’s lies

Chorus

It’s the fall of Man

It’s the fall from Grace

If I stop Eve now

Could I change our fate?

It's the fall of a man

It's the fall of Man

Verse III

Eve smiled at me and said

I want to know love

I want to feel the pain

I want to see my naked soul dance in the rain

I watched as Eve

She took the bite

Bridge

And I saw her tears flow

As it echoes our life

And the world that we know

From a selfless sacrifice

Chorus

It’s the fall of Man

It’s the fall from Grace

If I had stopped Eve then

Could I have changed our fate?

It’s the fall of a man

It’s the fall of Man

It feels nice to be back.

The Guitar piece was composed by Ken Damkier from Denmark.

He offered his piece to be used by anyone who might want

to make a song or work with it to ask him and he would make

it available. I asked and was rewarded with the pleasure

of this collaboration.

The Start Of The Dance.

He saw her descending the circular stair

lovely blue ribbons streamed from her hair

They set off the colors swirling so gay

His heart whispered all he wished to say

She saw him from the top of the stair

her intake of breath making her aware

Of feelings that blossomed before she could blink

She steadied herself wanting time to think

Moving toward the last step where soon she would appear

He heard the click of her shoes drawing near

A lifetime he'd waited for just such a chance

That she might grant him one sweet dance

But her shoe was caught and she tripped at the end

His arms caught her gently and her laughter did blend

With her smile and her eyes and their grateful glance

As the music began for the start of the dance

The pattern they were dancing traced upon the floor

Their future steps together through 50 years or more

The best of the tale is the lady you see

Remains ever true to the man holding me

Remains ever true to the man holding me

Thank you for listening

Title: See Papa Run

Lyrics by Nathan A. Baker

Music and Vocals by Art Holt

©2010 All Rights Reserved

Weekends you will find him

Down at the local drag strip

His best friend Slim

With him every trip

He’ll race for titles, money,

Or the shirt on his back

He’s a warrior in battle

King of the track

Old school racer

Detroit’s best

Cast iron and steel

That’s been put to test

Nine hundred horses

Don’t jump the gun

When the tree turns green

See Papa run!

Rolling thunder

He’s nitrous fast

Leaves losers to wonder

If he’s running on gas

Old school racer

Detroit’s best

Cast iron and steel

That’s been put to test

Nine hundred horses

Don’t jump the gun

When the tree turns green

See Papa run!

He’ll race for titles, money,

Or the shirt on his back

He’s a warrior in battle

King of the track

Old school racer

Detroit’s best

Cast iron and steel

That’s been put to test

Nine hundred horses

Don’t jump the gun

When the tree turns green

See Papa run!

There he goes boys

Man he’s fast… Ye Haw!

Collaboration- Dottie Corley and Tommy Saethran

http://www.soundclick.com/player/single_player.cfm?songid=9975470&q=hi&newref=1

Ghost Tears

Lying in a bed of memories

A sobbing ghost that no one hears

You wont feel my breath

Or reach to touch my tears

Every breath, a picture of your smile

A memory that I cant take

For a moment it feels real

Another tear drops off my face

Drops off my face

Its only ghost tears

Its only ghost tears

I look into the mirror, all I see

Reflections of a fantasy

Wheres the man I used to be

Well hes not here anymore

The mirror reflects what I had feared

Your memories are killing me

I see the tears but theyre not real

All that I can see

Drops off my face

Its only ghost tears

Its only ghost tears

A lingering phantom is all I am

Mere shadow life has cast

But shadows never last

No, shadows never last~

Drops off my face

Its only ghost tears

Its only ghost tears

Relentless Love

Sandra Segovic / Mark Smith

Compelling words from an endless reservoir

Baring your soul, showing me who you are

Your words they embrace me, captivate me

Leaving me in awe, by showing what you can be

With your Relentless Love

I melt from your Relentless Love

So much to say but I'm left speechless

Second seated memories have become my weakness

A timeless smile clears my conscious

My full heart beams regardless

BREATHE

Words and Music by Tracy-Ann Edridge

V1

Red eyes reflect your struggling soul

Suffering can't be erased

Torment's taken full control

Tomorrow's too hard to face

Chorus

Breathe in pain and suffering

Breathe out peace and love

Breathe in sadness for ourselves

Breathe out joy for others

V2

Drowning in a wave of grief

This current tide of pain

Pour out anxious energy

Till no more tears remain

Chorus

Breathe in pain and suffering

Breathe out peace and love

Breathe in sadness for ourselves

Breathe out joy for others

Make it through one minute

Then make it through the next

And when you're feeling overwhelmed

Remember to take a breath

Chorus

Breathe in pain and suffering

Breathe out peace and love

Breathe in sadness for ourselves

Breathe out joy for others

BREATHE!

S.A.D.

i've been waiting to see you, and that devilish smile

for longer than you would know

you said "it's funny how, somethings never die"

well somethings, dont ever grow

i will open eyes my, and break from this sorrow

if you help me find, a new tomorrow

why is it always the winter, that gets me in this way

like a bad dream that i cant escape

you said "its scary how somethings always change"

well somethings, are always the same

i will open my eyes, and break from this sorrow

if you'll help me find, a new tomorrow

if it's one little day, of short lived emotion

wont you let me embrace, in your devotion

i will open my eyes, and break from this sorrow

if you'll help me find, a new tomorrow

if it's one little day, of short lived emotion

wont you let me embrace, in your devotion

BLAH-BLAH BLAH-BLAH BLAH-BLAH

Donna Devine ("DonnaMarilyn"): Lyrics / Billy Playle: Music/Arrangement/Instruments/Vocals

Blah-Blah Blah-Blah Blah-Blah

(v1)

I came to the table in anticipation

Eager for the give and take

Of dinner conversation

A book, a film, a piece of news

But it was quickly clear

The only views to be expressed

Among the group of four

Would not be very topical

But largely philosophical

So once we’d passed the salad

A dialogue began

And though the meal was lovely

When I remember what I can

It’s…

Chorus 1

Blah-blah blah-blah blah-blah blah-blah

Blah-blah ground of being

Blah-blah blah-blah blah-blah blah-blah

Knowing without seeing

Blah-blah blah-blah blah-blah blah-blah

Blah-blah Eckhart Tolle

Blah-blah blah-blah blah-blah blah-blah

Universe grown smaller

(v2)

The third guest was quiet, sat cradling her chin

I slipped her a quiet wink

She answered with a grin

Everything we’d heard before

Rushed in to fill the space

As if the door to insight

Among the group of four

Could not include things topical

But only philosophical

So once we’d passed the salad

A dialogue began

And though the meal was lovely

When I remember what I can

It’s…

Chorus 2

Blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah

Blah blah transcendental

Blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah

Blah-blah elemental

Blah-blah blah-blah blah-blah blah

Transluscent revolution

Blah-blah blah-blah blah-blah blah

Spiritual evolution

Insert

Soon my eyes grew heavy as the dialogue droned

I should have been impressed

The list of words was finely honed

Retrocognition

Psychic birth

Paradigm shift

A new earth

Pain body

Cosmic Christ

Byron Katie

Geopathic

Downward pull

Harmonic convergence

Gaia’s emergence

Bridge

As the chicken ratatouille

Cooled in the pot

And the chardonnay warmed

In the bottle

I looked to the open balcony in silence

Where twilight had begun to bruise

In colours of love or of violence

And the silvery leaves of a poplar

Twisted in the soft wind

That would usher in rain

And by morning the world

Would smell fresh and new again

But in the meantime it was...

Chorus 3

Blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah

Blah-blah transcendental

Blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah

Blah-blah elemental

Blah-blah blah-blah blah-blah blah

Transluscent revolution

Blah-blah blah-blah blah-blah blah

Spiritual evolution

Outro

Then I turned and smiled at the speakers

Wondering how long it would last

Till the chattering jaybird of knowledge

Would reach a dead end

After flying in narrowing circles

Up its own tiny ass

Last minute as usual :) This was in the 1+1 contest last year, but I've finally put a proper recording together.

With You

by David Butler (lyD)

Show me the future

Swallow my past

Tell me to love you

I'll do as you ask

With you it's all I can do

Paint me in colours

I've never seen

Take me to places

I've never been

With you everything's new

CHORUS

I've never been a loving man

But I hope I can be true

I've never been a loving man

But I know I can be with you

So do me a favour

And don't let me go

Tell me you love me

So I'll always know

With you I'll never be blue

CHORUS

With you the sun can shine down brighter than before

With you the rain may come to trip me up

But you'll be there to catch me if I fall

CHORUS

Congrats Alistair for taking First Place. I also voted yours as first choice!! It is a very moving song. :)

Pat on the back and a big ole' kissie :P to David for 2nd place! Love that song, I remember it from the 1+1 contest before. It is really pretty.

I chose as my 3rd choice Jason's The Fall of Man. It had a current sound, enjoyed it.

It was great to see Dottie in, I think was her first "song" contest..if I am mistaken, please forgive my feeble memory and I am thrilled to Annie(musefrommichigan) back again!! Very nice piece, both of you!! I have missed you, Annie.

Thank you for the vote of 3rd Place on Gonna Start a Bonfire. I appreciate it and I am sure it will mean alot to Sarah, Nat (zeek) and Ryan.

Thank you Nigel for doing the contest, as always!!!

Happy Holidays, all..

Congrats Alistair :) Actually, I must admit this was one of the few occasions I haven't had your song in the top few - it's a lovely tune, but as I mentioned I found the percussion too off-putting to really enjoy it. I'm delighted to hear you adding to your arrangements though, and I'm pleased to see I was in a small minority on this one!

Gonna Start A Bonfire was one of my favourites from the start, and Ghost Tears and Relentless Love really worked their way into my head, ending up as two of my favourites. I'm surprised they didn't score higher. The Fall Of Man too. In fact, I didn't think there was a weak song among the lot.

Thanks for my 2nd place too :) And thanks to Nige and our small collection of non-contestant voters, you guys are the best!

Ouch  Good thing this is one of the scrapped ideas for my current artist project.

I thought "Breathe" was the standout of this bunch, not a great production, but an awesome Lily Allen UK pop vibe.

I knocked off points from a few entries for auto-tuned vocals. Jason probably would have had my second place vote if not for that fact. As it is, lyD had my second place vote.

Production brought down my score for Thinman as well. Drums panned to the right channel and vocals to the left made it very hard to listen to.

Alistair's song was very well written and very nicely produced, just not my cuppa tea, not surprised he won this one :)

Woah.. I wasn't expecting that! I think this is the first open format I have ever won, and I'm thrilled.

However, I am surprised. I thought this was a strong field.

I think I had Thinman on top, with what I thought was a really strong song. Maybe Robby's style is an acquired taste, but I'm surprised it didn't do better!

I placed Lyd second (but only just - I was humming and hahing over the two top songs for a while).

I also enjoyed Zeligovitch's entry. There were so many entries this time around that some songs had to be scored lower than I felt they deserved to distinguish between songs. All were good in their own way, but these were my top 3.

Thank you for voting and thank you, Nige, for running it! :)

The Thinman in the top half ! I'm a mainstream artist man !

I liked Ghost Tears and SAD and should've claimed my rightful position below them

Congratulations, gentlemen!

My top pick was "With You", followed by Alistair's and Thinman's songs tied for second place.

My favorite lyrics were, "Blah Blah Blah". If this had been a spoken word comp, they'd have gotten my high score!

Congratulations to Alistair. I gave him my best note, so I think he deserves his victory. It's a beautiful song. Thanks to the guys who gave me high notes and of course, especially to you, who gave me a 9. I also want to apologize to the person who gave me a 4. I know how I feel personally after listening to a song that deserves a 4: bored and wanting my time back. So sorry for wasting your time. :)

Finally I'd like to say that I really enjoyed taking part.

Congrats Alistair on your first win! Yay, I can only imagine how great it must feel. :)

Congrats Lyd on 2nd place. :)

I had Alistair and Kim tied for 1st place, I just couldn't decide between them.

I had a 4 way tie for 2nd place, FD, Zeligovitch, Jason, and lyd even though I listened several times I couldn’t pick just one!

Well done, Alistair! The minute I heard the song, I knew it was a "shoo-in". :) Really lovely work. ;)

And well done everyone else, too. It's always difficult to choose from among songs, because they're all so different and each has something special about it. ;)

Salley, thanks for your comment about the Blah-Blah lyrics. :) I absolutely love that the votes ranged from 1 to 10 (and 2 X 10 at that). :P:D

Anyway, it was an excellent competition, and I'm looking forward to voting for Song of the Year. ;)

Congratulations Alistair, You won a well deserved first place and I am very happy for you. It certainly has a universal appeal in my book. It was very powerful in an understated kind of way, yet far from ordinary.

Like Salley Gardens' I also loved Blah Blah Blah. It was so original and great fun. Lyd , I loved your song and scored you high up there among my favorites. It was beautifully focused and very touching.

Hey Kimberly, you did a fine job on light a bonfire. I can relate to that one.

It was a really fine showing of material from everyone which made it a pleasure for me to participate.

Congrats to Alistair and Gary!

There wasn't a weak song in the mix and it was very hard picking the top songs.

With that said, I had Zeligovitch and Kimberly tied for first and for second (another tie) I had Greybeard and Harreh.

cheer all!

Salley, thanks for your comment about the Blah-blah lyrics. I absolutely love that the votes ranged from 1 to 10 (and 2 X 10 at that).
(part of Donna's quote)

Donna, I just have to say, I do not understand anyone scoring a 1 for any one of these songs on this contest!

It is beyond my understanding. I know you will probably not raise a stink over this, as you are not that type of person, but I am sure it is hurtful for you, as it would be anyone to get a one.:huh:

Any effort on a song that comes out more than what a monkey may bang on a pot and pan deserves more than a one. I just don't get it. People surprize me, no matter how old I get.

Just saying.

Now, I bet I will get a one next time for saying this.:blink:

Salley, thanks for your comment about the Blah-blah lyrics. I absolutely love that the votes ranged from 1 to 10 (and 2 X 10 at that).
(part of Donna's quote)

Donna, I just have to say, I do not understand anyone scoring a 1 for any one of these songs on this contest!

It is beyond my understanding. I know you will probably not raise a stink over this, as you are not that type of person, but I am sure it is hurtful for you, as it would be anyone to get a one.:huh:

Kimberly

Kim, believe me, it doesn't worry me one iota. :) I truly find it amusing, and love the irony. I understand that everyone comes from a different perspective, and on a number of levels. ;) It's all good. :D

Roll on 2011, and more competitions! It's tremendous that more people are taking part now. I hope that continues. I only wish more of the Muse members would bother to vote. :P

Donna, that is a good way to look at it. I agree, I do hope more musers either enter, vote or both. :)

:)

Have a great night

I'll gladly justify that score when people justify my 2 and 3 :)

Yo FD

I'm the one who gave you a 2

I thought it was a 'kin awful song - I only gave it a 2 cos of the "production" (something that I don't consider all that important in the grand scheme of all things)

It started off well - I thought it was gonna be a contender man but then the verse turned into a watered down Van Morrison tribute (to his bad periods) with banal and painful words - but then I hit the chorus and the wheels really fell off when everything started playing in random time with the vocal droning on about relentless love and it really was relentless - refrigginlentless

Then when it hit the 2nd verse I don't think I've ever heard such a collection of mushy sickly sweet nonsensical lyrics - and it went on and on - and then the Bontempi organ bit man !!! No no no

I don't mean no disrespect but, as I have found out on many occasions, you are a plain talking guy so I know you will take it constructively. Anyways enough of the musers liked it so the consensus is against me for sure.

I really can't stand bullschitt songs about relentless lerv

I think you should try the Astral Weeks style

thinman.

i hate to jump the gun on you, especially as i have no need/sensible reason to

but whether FD is 'a plain talking guy' or not, i really think you should edit some of those comments

a lot of them are just plain mean, and very offensive to anyone, regardless of the way they talk themselves....

Fair enough, though I completely disagree. Doesn't upset me at all, as I said, it's a thrown away idea for our project, the first one we finished and neither of us was all that thrilled. I thought it was a good tune though and don't think the 4 and under scores are warranted. We're already onto much better tunes though...so 2011 Muse contests here I come B)

Why I scored Donna's song a 1 was very simple, I didn't think it was a song at all. It was spoken word over a bed of music. I could expand on that further but since she hasn't asked for a critique, I'll refrain :)

Edit: Harreh, no need to ask he censor himself on my account, I asked and was pretty sure he'd scored me either the 2 or 3 anyways.

Robby, your critique of FD's song really made me chuckle! I think (hope) that's your sense of humor that's popping out... Just so you know, *I* was the person who used the word "relentless" to describe one of your songs on the feedback forum. ;)

I almost did the same for the same reason.

When I first read the lyrics, I thought they were so brilliant, I *knew* I was going to score "10" before hearing the music. I knew they would be hard to set, but I thought *any* melody to them would suffice for a high score. When I heard no melody at all, I almost gave a "1". I just couldn't do it... (and *not* because I thought it would be "un-nice" or hurt Donna's feelings...)because the lyrics were *so* good. I scored it a 5, and felt almost guilty for scoring it that high, because I didn't consider it a song.

My score of 5 didn't reflect how I felt about Donna's piece of art (which was clearly a 10), nor did it reflect that it seemed to me to be in the wrong contest. But that score ended up reflecting the two extremes it got!
