I enjoy listening to indie music: The Head and the Heart, Bon Iver, Fleet Foxes, The Decemberists, and others. I also like country and the occasional pop song.

    Both!
  1. wow, I REALLY REALLY like what you wrote! Mind if I use some of your ideas? I'll change the beat and wording a bit so it's my own writing, if you like. I really like the punch of that last line you wrote, maybe I'll do something similar!
  2. Awesome! Glad you liked the idea, post anything you like. I liked the idea of setting it up with him calling her and then her sort of trash talking him.
  3. Hm, thanks. I've never heard the song, and I would be curious to hear it, but only after I write my lyrics so I don't borrow something by accident.
  4. Hi! I'm writing a new song about a guy who has no morals. It's from the point of view of a girl he used to go out with, and she kind of knows exactly what he's going to do. He sleeps with a lot of girls, doesn't care about their feelings, and has high dreams for himself. The singer is sort of wondering how he will achieve these dreams if he can't treat girls right. I thought the song would open with verses that sort of list the bad/annoying things he does, then move onto the chorus, which I'm still looking for a catchy phrase or two for. I thought maybe something along the lines of "you're in over your head" but I don't think it really fits. Anyone have any other suggestions? Here are some ideas for lines I came up with, not in any particular order: Sneaking out as the sun starts to rise Stealing food from the hotel mini bar Well planned kiss in the back of your car All your roads lead to paradise The blonde girl in the corner's gonna stare you down You wanna go straight to the top You have secrets you won't share Drop your name but they won't know who you are A smug smile as you walk out the door Empty bottles and dreams gone past A key that can open any door Burning bridges as you go It's all a game Taste the pain You never say you're leaving for the last time, cause you'll be back So, I'm looking for any ideas you have for anything--lines, themes, or whatever comes to mind. Thanks!
  5. This is funny. I like the twist at the end!
  6. 1. airplane 2. chocolate 3. bubble gum 4. tombstone 5. hideout
  7. No, it's too hot in here! I'm sweating. The person below me is listening to the radio!

  9. Here's my newest song. I think it might need a little help with the rhythm and wording, so if anyone has any suggestions that would be greatly appreciated. Thank you! Don't Say With one look you think you own my world Steal the heart of this innocent girl You lifted me up, then dropped me hard Left me beaten, broken, and scarred I know you're barely listening when I Get nervous, I talk about nothing But you never listen, and that's the thing, so Don't say you're sorry when you know it's not enough Don't say you want me when you know you're out of luck Don't waste your time reading from your book of lies Don't leave me twisted and turned inside There's a fine line between what you say and the truth It's always the same when it comes to you Don't want to find out how far I can fall Just so you know, you can't win them all Don't say you're sorry when you know it's not enough Don't say you want me when you know you're out of luck Don't waste your time reading from your book of lies Don't leave me twisted and turned inside You want to be needed And I need to be wanted Your sweet side had me blinded Then left me brokenhearted Don't want to find out how far I can fall Just so you know, you can't win them all Don't say you're sorry when you know it's not enough Don't say you want me when you know you're out of luck Don't waste your time reading from your book of lies Don't leave me twisted and turned inside Just so you know, you can't win them all
  10. And jonie, thank you so much. You really gave me a lot to think about. I'll probably post a rewrite when I'm done. I'm definitely going to think about what I want to convey about my generation and see if I can tell that through the verses.
  11. Thanks for the suggestion! I'm probably going to work on the message some more, so I'll see if that line gets rid of itself. And I like the image that it conjured for you of an old middle east town, because I was sort of writing about my experiences in the middle east this summer. I guess that came through
  12. I started these lyrics, but there are many lines I don't like. Does anyone have suggestions for a title? It's currently 'Songs of Young,' but I'm not sure. Also, if you have any suggestions for replacement lines for ones that don't work that well, that would be great. Pilgrims gather, we're the future Our heads lift to the sun Our angels are dancing, They dance through the streets, As we sing the songs of the young The journey is the reward Today is just a day Freedom lives in the hearts of young And there the songs will stay (?) The journey is the reward Today is just a day Freedom lives in the hearts of young And there the songs will stay (?) Sweet smell of roses, heads are swimming Above gates to the city of gold As we sing from the rooftops, Singing of hope, And singing the songs of old (?) The journey is the reward Today is just a day Freedom lives in the hearts of young And there the songs will stay (?) The journey is the reward Today is just a day Freedom lives in the hearts of young And there the songs will stay (?) As we swallow our fears, No regrets to the songs we've sung Voices carry through the night Listen to the songs of the young The journey is the reward Today is just a day Freedom lives in the hearts of young And there the songs will stay (?) The journey is the reward Today is just a day Freedom lives in the hearts of young And there the songs will stay (?)
